RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Thin, Ann K. Morris

The things 17-year-old Erin Post wants are drastically different from the things she needs. A junior in high school, Erin wants nothing more than to be thin.

In reality, she’s a depressed girl with a serious eating disorder who needs to stop starving herself. When Erin’s mother insists that she see a psychiatrist, Erin runs away to Chicago. There, she meets Lin and Ari, two homeless teens who show her that’s there’s a lot more to the world than being thin and fitting in.

Soon after making her new friends, Erin is given a choice. She can either help her new friends and risk having to face psychiatric treatment, or continue her path toward thinness.

Thin is an exceptional book written by Ann K. Morris and wow, what a stellar and poignant novel! Thin for me was moving, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. Thin was captivating to me from the start thanks to the premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Ann K. Morris who from the start hooked me with her fantastic and moving story. It is rare to find a novel that combines the themes this book does, and that is refreshing to me. That is why I already recommend this book, however, if you need more convincing then continue to read more to learn about Thin!

Thin is an exceptional novel that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the book, Erin Post, a 17-year-old who wants nothing more than to be thin. However this is sending her down a dangerous path, and her mother is worried, so much so she insists she sees a psychiatrist to help with her depression and eating disorder but Erin instead, runs away.

In Chicago, Erin finds herself with two homeless teens Lin and Ari who show her that there is so much more to life than being thin and fitting in. The reader will follow Erin as she struggles with her eating disorder and must decide whether to continue down the dangerous path she is on, or seek help and live a fulfilling and happy life and this book lovers is the short premise of the incredible Thin!

The premise of Thin is exceptional and really touching and is a young adult novel I feel will resonate with many young readers. I loved the many themes and elements explored throughout the book, and all themes are explored by Ann K. Morris wonderfully, and she does this by lacing these poignant themes throughout the text flawlessly and weaving them with the story. The result of this makes Thin a highly addictive and fascinating read that is never once lackluster or predictable.

Ann K. Morris is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp her reader’s attention from the first page. Morris instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust her reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed.

I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly, but with Thin, the reader, will not encounter this issue because Ann K. Morris instantly develops her characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

Overall Thin is a moving, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars! So be sure to have a read of the book preview below, you won’t regret it!
