But with dreams, there can also be nightmares
Lonely and plain-featured, Mona Parker is just another faceless teenager at Spring Hill High School. One day she runs afoul of Lady Anne Golightly, a beautiful and arrogant classmate who turns Mona’s colorless life into a hellish existence. Bullied relentlessly and with nowhere to turn, Mona considers suicide. One night, Thaddeus Finkle, her guardian angel, appears. He offers her a way out—swap lives with another.
The choice seems easy, and Mona takes the angel up on his offer. She awakes on Meredith, a parallel world of Earth where magic has replaced technology. Mona discovers she is Alexandria, a woman of breathtaking beauty, and the daughter of a Duke complete with servants and riches.
Then she discovers the price of her bargain.
Trapped behind the Veil, an impenetrable curtain of magic, the Duchy of Wheel is the last major province still unconquered by Marlinda, the creator of the enchanted barrier. Known as the Dark Queen, Marlinda’s cruelty includes a singular fondness for melding men, women, and children, with animals…and she has special plans for Alexandria.
Tal, the Prince and Heir of the Empire of Meredith, burns with an intense hatred for Marlinda and her minions. The Dark Queen’s raiders regularly cross the Veil to prey upon the helpless citizens living near the magical boundary. Despite an elaborate system of Watch Towers along the enchanted barrier, it is impossible for the Empire to stop all the raids. Desperate to protect his people, Tal takes dangerous risks to prevent these attacks. Banished to a remote garrison for his reckless behavior, Tal happens upon a group of raiders—one whose leader possesses the means for opening a way through the Veil.
Thus begins the conquest of the Veil.
The Open Portal (Conquest of the Veil) is a sensational and thrilling paranormal fantasy novel that captivated me from start to finish! The Open Portal is a book I was keen to read ever since discovering it because I always love to find inspiring adventure/fantasy stories to read so when I discovered The Open Portal I thought ‘is this finally the perfect book?!’. Now that I have finished The Open Portal I can happily write that yes it is book lovers. The Open Portal is one of the most well written and well-developed stories I have ever come across, and I truly mean this as The Open Portal is exceptional and should not be missed! That is why I already have to recommend you readers have a read of The Open Portal, however, if you need more convincing then continue to read!
The Open Portal is a breathtaking novel that will introduce the reader to the young protagonist of the story, Mona Parker. Mona Parker is a high school student at Spring Hill and it is here that she is relentlessly bullied by the beautiful but mean spirited, Lady Anne Golightly. The bullying gets so bad that Mona considers taking her own life but soon, her guardian angel appears and gives her an offer, the ability to switch lives with another.
Mona accepts, seeing no other way out and soon she is transported to Meredith, a parallel world where magic is everywhere and a place where Mona lives as a beautiful woman with a life of luxury. However not all things are as they seem and soon Mona will discover there is a price to her new life and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible The Open Portal!
The story of The Open Portal is a thrilling one thanks to the enthralling and action-packed moments as well as the unpredictable nature of the book that will have the readers turning the pages with haste from beginning to end. I love books that involve a journey because usually in these stories the character develops and grows as they overcome events which in turn adds to the development of the character and explores life lessons throughout the book and that is most certainly the case with The Open Portal!
Michael Scott Clifton is an incredibly talented author who clearly knows how to write unique but engaging stories. It was evident to me from the start that Clifton is a passionate writer who surely loves entertaining readers with his literature and putting a smile on readers’ faces. I loved this about the author but what I loved the most about Clifton’s writing is his remarkable descriptions because they genuinely amazed me!
Fantasy novels, in general, are difficult to write because you have to transport the reader quickly and effortlessly, but sadly this is rarely accomplished in a fantasy story but not with The Open Portal. The Open Portal is the way it is because Clifton knows what he is doing! Clifton knows how to whisk his readers away to a fantasy land and entice them with magnificent descriptions and keep readers entertained from start to finish!
Overall The Open Portal is a marvelous, stellar and supreme fantasy book that will entertain, delight as well as charm young readers and even adults! And so I, of course, have to award this book five stars! Be sure to have a read of the preview below book lovers, you won’t regret it!
