It was supposed to be a simple – if hugely lucrative – job.
Captain Michael Dannage and the crew of the Hope’s Folly can’t pass up the opportunity to salvage a fleet of warships from the long dead Terran Imperium. Things never go right for Dannage, but he never expected them to get this out of hand.
The Terran ships aren’t as derelict as everyone thought and the malicious force that destroyed the Terrans thousands of years ago is still alive and still bent on humanity’s annihilation.
This could mean the end for all Dannage holds dear, and he’ll do whatever it takes to save the people he cares about. As enemies – both ancient and modern clash – it will take all Dannage’s skills and more than a little luck to survive.
They say ‘hope is not a strategy’, but it’s all Dannage has left.
Wow, Slave Mind … where do I begin? Why don’t I start my review by writing that Slave Mind is a thrilling novel that captivated me from start to finish with its unique and compelling plot. When I read the description of Slave Mind I was hooked, after all, I love science fiction novels and love even more when they have a twist, so I was hooked and ready to go. However, when I started to read Slave Mind, I was shocked by just how good the literature and the story was and so I raced through this novel desperate to find out what would happen to the protagonists I had invested in and that is why I already have to recommend that you readers have a read of the incredible Slave Mind!
Slave Mind is a compelling sci-fi action-adventure novel that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the story, Captain Michael Dannage. The reader will follow Dannage and his crew as they go on a mission to ‘salvage a fleet of warships’ which are supposedly out of action and which could be a highly lucrative job. However, when they arrive, they find that the ships are not out of action but in fact, very active and the reader will be thrown into a fast-paced journey like no other. The reader will follow Dannage and his team as they try to survive and defeat the Terrans which are hell-bent on destroying humanity and all that Dannage holds dear and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible Slave Mind!
Slave Mind for me was thrilling, captivating, and addictive right from the start, and I felt this from beginning to end. Slave Mind was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Rob Dearsley who hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a sci-fi novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a sci-fi story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! Slave Mind does have action-packed moments; however, they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky, which is always fantastic in a book!
Rob Dearsley is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Dearsley instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in sci-fi novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly, but with Dearsley, the reader will not encounter this issue because Dearsley instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.
Overall Slave Mind is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so, I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars! If you are a reader who loves dystopia, science fiction or even fantasy then I implore you to read Slave Mind; it is a fast-paced, action-adventure that should not be missed so have a read of the preview below and get reading!
