J B Glazer, Author Spotlight

I have been hiding my whole life. It’s a sacrifice I was willing to make for my family. My father’s political aspirations have always come first. I learned the hard way my actions could jeopardize everything he’s worked for. So I abandoned that girl who yearned for freedom and chased trouble. Instead I molded myself into the perfect daughter. Doing what is right and expected has become who I am. Until I met him―Rob Ashford.

With just one look into his stormy blue eyes, I knew I was lost. He exudes power, authority, and above all, control. Mine fades away the longer I’m in his presence. He’s stirred up desires I have worked so hard to suppress. I have come to realize he gets what he wants. And what he wants right now is me. As much as I want to succumb to what he’s offering, I’m not sure if I will lose myself—or find who I was meant to be. I’m not strong enough to refuse him. I give him everything, and even though he’s given me nothing in return, I still love him. He ignites a fire and passion that burns so bright I fear I’ll combust. The thought of leaving him terrifies me, but I know more than anyone that when you play with fire, someone always gets burned.

Thank you for joining us today at Red Headed Book Lover! Please tell us more about yourself

I’ve always been an avid reader and love nothing more than getting lost in a good book. Romance is my favorite genre because I like a guaranteed happily ever after. Real life is filled with plenty of challenges, so for me it’s a brief escape. That’s my goal when I write: to take readers along a journey and away from the stresses of daily life. I hope after they read one of my books they’ll feel a newfound sense of optimism. I believe in writing books about real characters who are aspirational but attainable. And I’m a big fan of dramatic happy endings. I won’t write a book that doesn’t have one.

Could you please tell us readers about your book and what inspired you to write your book?

Into the Fire is the first book of a new series: The Elements. It follows the journey of self-made millionaire Rob Ashford and the elusive Veronica Clayton as they dive headfirst into the flames. Like its name, this Romance is packed with heat and plenty of heart.

Growing up in a political family, Veronica was governed by a set of rules that revolved around preserving her father’s reputation. She never made a decision for herself or let her emotions reveal her true feelings. When she meets Rob, she discovers parts of herself she had long buried. With him, she wants to test her boundaries and rediscover the woman she once was, and perhaps who she is meant to be. Rob has demons of his own he’s never confronted, until Veronica challenges the choices he’s made. The book is about their path to finding themselves—and each other.

In the Lost & Found series, Lucy Chalmers plans the dream wedding of Veronica Clayton and Rob Ashford. I thought it would be interesting to give them a backstory. How did they meet? Why was she the only woman who could break through his hardened demeanor? They provided the inspiration for Into the Fire.

What would your advice be for aspiring writers?

Remember why you started writing in the first place. Sometimes I think writing is the easiest part. It can get overwhelming having to then market your book. Many writers are introverts by nature, so the thought of having to go out and sell is very unappealing. It’s also terrifying putting your words out into the world to be judged and can be discouraging at times. But if you love writing, it’s all worth it in the end. I think publishing a novel is an accomplishment to be celebrated, whether you’ve written 1 or 10.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?

I think pacing is critical. It’s important to keep a reader interested throughout the book’s journey. If you start strong but then slow down the reader won’t want to stick with you. Time is precious and so is every word. I also think a strong ending that ties up all loose ends is super important. It leaves the reader feeling satisfied and that the time they invested with you was worth it.

What is your writing process like?

I do most of my writing at night. There’s something about the ambiance that puts me in the right mindset. I’m sure it helps that there are less distractions. I start with an outline and know the general story arc. I can’t just sit down and write without having some sort of plan. For the most part my books are mapped out in my head before I even put pen to paper. I don’t write in any particular order from the outline. I prefer to write about whatever section inspires me at the time. I definitely leave room along the way for plot changes and will pivot based on where the characters lead me. It’s always fun to discover something unexpected! And I always carry a notebook around with me. That way I’m ready whenever inspiration strikes.

What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

My research is often destination based and is organic to the flow of my writing. If my characters are going somewhere I haven’t been, I want to make sure the experience feels authentic. In some of my past books I’ve looked into vacation spots such as Aruba and Aspen. I like to get a feel for the destination, accommodations, nearby attractions, and culture. In Into the Fire, Veronica and Rob go on a hot air balloon ride and to a Chicago Symphony Orchestra performance. I’ve never done either, so l looked into what’s involved and used my imagination for the rest.

Do you have a set schedule for writing, or do you only write when you feel inspired?

I’m a Marketer by day but by night I put pen to paper. I’d love to write full-time but I’m not at the point where I can make a career out of it. But a girl can dream! Given I have a day job it’s hard to follow a set schedule, so I write when I can. It comes down to prioritizing and making time for the things that are important to us. And sometimes sacrificing sleep 😊

Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?

I’m an avid reader and often find inspiration from other books. One of my favorite authors is Colleen Hoover. I love that her stories are relatable and full of heart, which is what I strive for. I’ve enjoyed every single one of her books. She never fails to deliver and serves as a reminder to never settle and only put out books I love and would want to read. I’m also a big fan of J Kenner’s romances. The Stark series in particular was hot and very addictive. My books do include some heat, so I try to channel her when I need to get into that mindset.

Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?

I’m working on the next book in The Elements series, Into the Light. This is a three-part series of which I’ve completed one book. I always debate if I should hold off and release them all at once, but I get too excited once I finish a manuscript that I can’t wait. Into the Light follows Jeremy McAllister, Rob Ashford’s closest friend and business partner. Readers learned he has a stormy past. They’ll find out more about it and why he’s so jaded when it comes to love. I’m working toward a Winter 2021 launch.
