Heart of Stone, David W. Burns

Can a monster choose to be good?

That’s the question facing Kyra Anastas. With snakes for hair and a gaze that turns men to stone, Kyra is a modern-day Medusa, making a living in Chicago as a hitwoman for hire. Feared and hated even by her fellow Mythic, she lives a solitary and bitter existence until a dying millionaire asks Kyra to protect her daughter from supernatural dangers. Eager to be more than just a dealer of death, Kyra takes the job. But the road to redemption will force Kyra to face all her demons— not just the monsters chasing them across the Windy City, but also the horrors that haunt her own evil past.

Heart of Stone is a thrilling novel thanks to the enthralling and action-packed moments as well as the unpredictable nature of the book that will have the readers turning the pages with haste from beginning to end. I love books that involve a journey because usually in these stories the character develops and that is certainly the case with the protagonist of Heart of Stone! And it makes for a fascinating and entertaining story that grips you from start to finish.

David W. Burns is an incredibly talented and excellent author who clearly knows how to write unique but engaging stories. It was evident to me from the start that Burns is a passionate writer who surely loves entertaining readers with his literature and putting a smile on readers’ faces. I loved this about the author, but what I loved the most about Burns’s writing was his remarkable descriptions because they genuinely amazed me. Fantasy novels, in general, are challenging to write because you have to transport the reader quickly and effortlessly, but sadly this is rarely accomplished in a fantasy story but not with Heart of Stone. Heart of Stone is the way it is because Burns knows what he is doing!

To conclude my thoughts, Heart of Stone is a marvelous, stellar, and supreme fantasy tale that will entertain, delight as well as charm readers! And so I, of course, have to award this book five stars! Be sure to have a read of the preview below book lovers, you won’t regret it!
