Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Magic & Sword and Sorcery, Teen & Young Adult

When Nora Youngblood’s father dies on her sixteenth birthday, it’s the end of everything she ever knew. But a new journey begins with a skull-shaped pocket watch – the last gift from her father, a professor of archaeology. Where did this mysterious trinket come from, and why would a warlock named Kabos now be hunting her for it? Nora, now an orphan, finds protection under a wizard named Malachi, his handsome apprentice, Aidan, and a brother she never knew she had. As she learns the truth about her family’s mysterious past, Nora seeks to uncover the secret of the skull, which leads to both a powerful and dangerous weapon. With the fate of the skull in her hands, she’s lured into the hidden world of Dubhgail to combat the treacherous Kabos – who has kidnapped her brother. Can she sacrifice herself to save her brother and her friends? In this fantasy novel, a teenage girl discovers her magical heritage and soon finds herself facing the might of an evil warlock in another world.

Nora’s father sadly passes away on her birthday, and this starts a serious motion of events that will take her on a journey like no other. The story of Grim Nora and the Secret of the Skull is a thrilling one thanks to the enthralling and action-packed moments as well as the unpredictable nature of the book that will have the readers turning the pages with haste from beginning to end. I love books that involve a journey because usually in these stories the character develops and grows as they overcome events and battles which in turn adds to the development of the character and explores life lessons throughout the book and that is most certainly the case with Grim Nora and the Secret of the Skull. What I loved most about Grim Nora and the Secret of the Skull is that the reader is taken on an adventure that is continuously evolving and changing which in turn kept me hooked from beginning to end.

Grim Nora and the Secret of the Skull is a remarkable, fascinating and addictive read that managed to entertain me for many hours on end thanks to the unique premise of the story as well as the great literature courtesy of Albaugh.

A.M. Albaugh is an incredibly talented author who clearly knows how to write unique but engaging stories. It was evident to me from the start that Albaugh is a passionate writer who surely loves entertaining readers with her literature and putting a smile on readers’ faces. I loved this about the author, but what I loved the most about Albaugh’s writing is her remarkable descriptions because they genuinely amazed me. Fantasy novels, in general, are challenging to write because you have to transport the reader quickly and effortlessly, but sadly this is rarely accomplished in a fantasy story but not with Grim Nora and the Secret of the Skull. Grim Nora and the Secret of the Skull is the way it is because Albaugh knows what she is doing!
