RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Demon King, Erik Henry Vick

Fantasy, Horror & Occult, Literature & Fiction

Ancient evils lurk in the Western New York town of Oneka Falls, and they are hungry.

Only three children have encountered them and lived. Psyches fractured, each child has survived as best they could—wrapped in fantasy, the comfort of amnesia, or the silence of isolation When those evils intrude on their lives a second time, it sets a chain of events in action that can only end in destruction. But who will be destroyed, the children or the ancient evils that plague the town?

Demon King is a terrifying, thrilling and gripping novel that captivated as well as frightened me from the start. Demon King is sensational for many reasons but one of the core reasons the book is so incredible is because Erik Henry Vick, the author of Demon King has shrouded his book in a ton of mystery that in turn, keeps the reader guessing to the end! I love being lost in a novel that is unpredictable as well as thrilling, and Demon King most certainly is this! If you are a reader who is looking to get lost in an exciting book then this book is for you, however, if you need more convincing then continue to read my review to learn more!

Demon King is a unique novel with a multi-layered plot that is full of captivating mystery. The description of the book does not give much away so I too will try not to! Besides, some books are best read knowing little, and Demon King is most certainly that type of read. Demon King will take the reader through two different points in history and will follow children and then them as adults. The reader will follow three children in ‘the Western New York town of Oneka Falls’ and when they do they will be introduced to a great amount of evil. The children when young will encounter evil and well, the evil they encounter is terrifying and did have me reading the book in the light! The reader, however, will not only follow the children in their young years but also in their adult life as they are forced to face the evil again. You may be thinking ‘It’ by Stephen King, and sure, the book has similarities but not in plot… but literature! The literature in both of these books are sensational, dramatic and astounding and despite slight comparisons, the books are vastly different, but the writing can be easily compared because they are both fast-paced books that will thrill and terrify you!

The story of Demon King is an excellent one that had my mind ticking over with theories. At the heart of the novel is a puzzling mystery, the mystery slowly reveals itself and when it does readers will be shocked as well as terrified. Never before have I been so entertained by a horror based novel, usually these books can be so outlandish that I stop reading but not with Demon King, somehow the author Erik Henry Vick managed to convince me that the events could be real and that I should be terrified. It is always a good sign when an author can make fantasy seem real and that is just one of the many reasons why I love Vick’s literature and why I will always read his books from now on.

Erik Henry Vick is an author who deserves praise for his many writing abilities, I believe however that he should receive the most recognition for his glorious descriptions that left no stone unturned. The descriptions courtesy of Vick, particularly of the evil the reader is faced with is haunting and is so well described that it could give readers nightmares. Every single detail about the evil was excellently described, and so was the local surroundings. The surroundings in the book were equally well described, so much so that Vick managed to create an atmosphere of tension and suspense through it which added to the overall excellence of the story.

Overall Demon King is a stellar, haunting and gripping novel that will keep readers entertained and thrilled until the very end and that is why book lovers that I have to award the story five stars! So please book lovers, have a read of the novel and be sure to check back here next week to read my author spotlight for Erik Henry Vick!

Thank you so much, Aimee Ann! Terrific review! It was terrific fun to write, and I’m gratified you found it as enjoyable to read! Believe it or not, this story grew from a house like the one featured in the beginning of the book, complete with a stack of old rusty bikes in the back. The first chapter virtually leapt out of me that very afternoon (which was a bit inconvenient as I was finishing the final draft of Errant Gods at the time)! Benny and Toby drove the 1979 section to completion, and the idea of their reunion drove… Read more »
