David Myles Robinson was eight years old when he first got hooked on travel. Since then, he’s seen most of the world—all its continents plus, he laments, “far too many places where travel is now off-limits.”After a lifetime of visiting near and far, in heat and in cold, in comfort and in danger, Robinson has put it all together now in this unique collection of the varied travel adventures he’s found—and the lessons he’s learned from them. A Fellini-esque view of the Amazon, a Mercedes caravan to Istanbul, Jane Goodall’s amazing chimps—just part of a travel trunk full of experiences guaranteed to keep you seesawing from “Boy, I’d love to do that” to “Sure glad it was him, not me.”In Conga Line on the Amazon, Robinson brings to his first travel book the same gift for intriguing narrative and sharp characterization that has won praise for his six highly successful novels. Some of his tales may be for the strong of heart, but they’re all for the reader with a yen to be entertained by one intrepid man’s adventures and misadventures exploring the strange and wonderful world we live in.
Conga Line on the Amazon: And Other Tales of Adventure Travel is a travel memoir that will take its readers on a moving and memorable journey across the world! The author’s story of his journey is incredible and David Myles Robinson has certainly traveled far and wide! I have read a lot of travel memoirs as it is a genre I adore however Conga Line on the Amazon stands out amongst the genre thanks to the sensational stories Robinson shares and his compelling literature. Never before have I been so enchanted by a memoir but the author and narrator of his own story, David Myles Robinson managed to compel me from the very start thanks to his honest and captivating writing. In Conga Line on the Amazon, the reader is whisked away on a journey and Robinson is so brilliantly descriptive about the places he has visited, that the reader will feel as if they are right there experiencing every moment he is. What I love about this book so much is that it is a travel memoir but with unique themes. As in Conga Line on the Amazon, David shares his stories of adventure from many different places but also the lessons he learned along the way. And although some travel memoirs do explore, it is rare for them to in such detail as Conga Line on the Amazon and that is what makes this book truly special.
David Myles Robinson is an incredible man who I admire so much, there is much I admire about Robinson but one of the core attributes I admire about him is the fact that he has told his story. Literature is an art form and it is there for stories to be told and shared, and stories like Robinson’s should definitely be shared thanks to the many wonderful adventures Robinson has had.
As I read Conga Line on the Amazon, I found myself reading Conga Line on the Amazon at an alarming rate because it was captivating as well as engrossing; Robinson’s incredible literature will have you turning the pages frantically, and I adored how he was able to do this. As well as Robinson writing his book in an incredibly compelling way, he also is excellent at describing the settings and places in this book. His beautiful descriptive writing of the places he visits will make the reader feel as if you are right there, this is how I felt, and because I did, I felt as if I was with Robinson on his adventures and that for me was incredibly wonderful.
As Conga Line on the Amazon is a remarkable, memorable and compelling piece of nonfiction I am going to award this book five stars! If you are a reader who adores travel memoirs then do read this book as the story between its pages will entertain you for many days and nights.
