Bacon Grief was a captivating and moving read and an incredibly memorable one that I will struggle to forget for a long time thanks to the compelling story, the message at the heart of the book, and the extraordinary characters the reader meets along the way! The reader in Bacon Grief will be introduced to two teens, Tim and Charlie, who have fallen in love but there is something that may keep them apart – their church. Tim is the son of a Baptist Church pastor who along with his mother, have moved to a rural town so his father can staff a small church. It is here that his life will change when he meets Charlie. The pair fall in love thanks to their combined interests and love of Jesus but soon they will face many challenges when they come out to their families, with Tim not being supportive. To write I am astounded by Bacon Grief is an understatement, this captivating book captured me and held me, prisoner, until the very end.
Most romance novels these days, in my opinion, are lackluster and predictable and so my faith in this genre has dwindled over the years. Bacon Grief, however, has restored my faith in this genre as this one is incredible! The story, combined with Joel Shoemaker’s flawless writing which feels as if it is spiked with adrenaline makes Bacon Grief a stellar read and one that should not be missed.
Joel Shoemaker’s prose engrossed me very quickly thanks to the poignant themes he explores as well as the gripping narrative of the protagonists of Tim and Charlie, but what also gripped me was his sensitivity to the subjects explored. The sensitivity and passion in Shoemaker’s words were admirable and kept me turning the pages quickly as I desperately wanted to read more of his exceptional prose.
As I am madly in love with Bacon Grief and think it is a captivating and poignant novel with a moving and memorable plot, I have no choice but to award it a dazzling five stars because it deserves this! Bacon Grief indeed is a captivating book, and so I hope you lovely readers take my advice when I write that you should read this excellent book, you will not regret it!
