William Huhn grew up in Pennsylvania, in an old colonial house overflowing with books. He studied classical violin from age five, then took up old time fiddle. Shortly after graduating from Vassar College with a chemistry degree, he published his first poem. Uninspired by lab work, he played fiddle across Europe, to finance his poetry. The poems he wrote during this period found their way into journals and magazines and would form the backbone for Bachelor Holiday, his first full-length collection. The travels themselves led to a sequence of narrative essays found in American Literary Review, Sport Literate, Pembroke, Rosebud, etc. Eight of these were listed as a “Notable Essay” in The Best American Essays series. His biography of Alcoholics Anonymous cofounder Henrietta Seiberling, his late grandmother, is forthcoming. Today, Huhn works for a testing and certification company, overseeing its East Coast laboratories. He lives just outside New York City with his wife, son, and baby girl.
Bachelor Holiday is an incredible poetry book that I was excited to discover and a book I was eager to get lost in thanks to the intriguing premise. As a poetry lover, I always love to find new poetry books that move me however sadly many don’t do that for me, but Bachelor Holiday certainly does. As soon as I started to read Bachelor Holiday, I knew this was going to be an incredible and thought-provoking tale and now that I have finished the book I can write that it happily is just that!
That is why I am so happy to have read Bachelor Holiday and why I am so excited to be sharing it with you today! As it is a poetry book that should not be missed. Thanks to William Huhn’s travels across Europe, he is able to use clear and vivid language, drawing inspiration from this and sharing it throughout his poetry, which gives us a fantastic blend of personal and cultural experiences. The result of this is a touching collection of poems that explore relationships between humans and nature,e and the result is a stellar piece of literature you will struggle to forget.

The poems laced throughout were exceptional and kept me turning the pages with haste and this is all thanks to William Huhn’s prose.
There is no doubt that William Huhn is a phenomenal writer, I adored how he made each poem emotive and thought provoking and how enjoyable they were to read over and over again. As soon as I would finish one poem I would end up re-reading it because I wanted to immerse myself in it again and understand the true meaning or just re-read it for the fun of it! And that is the sign of a talented poet and the beauty of Bachelor Holiday.
Overall Bachelor Holiday is a sensational, unique, and beautiful poetry book that should not be missed so I, of course, have to award this stellar book five stars! So please, have a read of Bachelor Holiday and get lost in the captivating and brilliant words of William Huhn, and be compelled to read from the very beginning to the very end… you will not regret it!
