There is a reason books that recount the regrets and advice of the dying strike so deep a chord: people who have nothing left to lose can tell their stories with a sincerity and unpretentiousness we crave but that is all too rare. In “Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love,” Christopher Pelloski relates his own downfall from a prominent physician-scientist in the field of radiation oncology in a similarly candid way.
Without fear of losing society’s good opinion—having lost it already—Pelloski has the freedom to be sharply honest in his observations of himself and the world around him. To the question “Why would someone with so much going for him risk, and then lose, everything, by sinking so low?” he offers a gut-wrenching, soul-baring answer that dissects his decades-long downward spiral and examines it from perspectives that range from the historical to the molecular.
Pelloski chronicles the evolution of his devastating legal battle alongside his concurrent journey of recovery from childhood sexual abuse. He shares with us the lessons he learned from these experiences in the hope they can serve as both a warning and an invitation: a warning to abuse survivors not to follow his dark path of silence, and an invitation to society to deal more openly with the multitude of painful issues that have shaped not only his life but also, tragically, the lives of so many others.
Those brave enough to set aside their prejudices and preconceptions will be richly rewarded and challenged by this work.
Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is a unique, compelling, and overall, insightful book that should not be missed by any reader. Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is a book with a shocking premise but it is a book that I believe everybody should read as it will really open your eyes to certain issues in the world today and how we should be combating them. If you are a reader who loves to get lost in raw, emotional, and honest memoirs, then already I recommend this book. However, if you do need more convincing then continue to read to learn more about the exceptional Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love!
Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is a memoir written by Christopher E. Pelloski MD and in his book, he shares his story and the ups and downs he has faced. Christopher was a doctor, a leading oncologist who treated children for diseases. However, Christopher has been battling with a secret and while away for work, this secret is revealed, the secret that Christopher had been viewing child pornography. The premise of this is shocking and I think any person would immediately start to judge, but Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is a book that needs to be read with an open mind because what is revealed is equally shocking and will change your perspectives on the topic massively.
In Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love, Christopher will bare all about a topic many would not, and shares his journey, from the sexual abuse he suffered as a child, to how this abuse affected him in life and lastly, the legal battle he thus endured. All of this combined makes a raw, rare, and remarkable book that I can truly write is unlike anything I have read before. That is why I cannot recommend this book highly enough so I hope you lovely readers take my advice and have a read of Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love!
Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is an enlightening, honest and quite simply incredible memoir in my opinion. Christopher’s tale is harrowing, thought-provoking and lastly inspiring. Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is inspiring to me because I would class it as a redemption story as well as healing one and Christopher shares how he healed himself and overcome the trauma he suffered as a child and the result of this is a touching, inspiring book that will shatter preconceived notions as well as inspire readers to be more open and honest with themselves as well as to heal.
Christopher E. Pelloski for me is an incredible person, who is incredibly brave to be so bare and share his story with us readers. It takes a lot for anybody to share something about their life, but even more so when such topics are explored especially ones of sexual abuse. It takes a lot for a person to do this but Christopher has and the result is an eye-opening and moving read. That I believe will have the ability to guide other readers in their own journey to healing and that to me is a wonderful thing.
To conclude, Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is an incredibly inspirational and honest tale. It takes a lot for a person to be so honest and to tell their tale so I admire Christopher for doing just this and sharing his tale in the hope that he can help others. As Trauma, Shame, and the Power of Love is one of the most unique and moving memoirs I have ever read, I have no choice but to award this incredible book a dazzling five stars as it truly deserves it!
