RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

To Live Another Day, J.R. Rogers

It is June 1940 when, ahead of the Germans marching into Paris, Rudolf and Aleece Bamberger, a young German-French Jewish couple flee to Africa to wait out the war where they become embroiled in intrigue and espionage.
Safe at last—or so it seems at first—the Bamberger’s are diverted to Lourenço Marques because of a U-boat threat rather than to Cape Town their original destination. Aleece, a French citizen, finds work at the British consulate while Rudolf, her German husband, but an emigrant to France before the war drifts helplessly into the hands of the Abwehr spymaster, Ludwig Janke. The Nazi’s tentacles run deep through the tranquil colonial capital and his fearsome espionage operation soon ensnares Rudolf and threatens him into cooperating.
With spy-thriller plotting, To Live Another Day vividly re-creates the skullduggery of Axis and Allied intelligence operatives including the Germans, the Italians, MI6, the OSS, and other services operating from this vast neutral harbor situated at the forefront of Indian Ocean shipping lanes.

To Live Another Day is a sensational espionage novel that will take its readers back in time to the 1940s to the month of June. It is here that the reader will be introduced to the two protagonists of the novel, Rudolf and Aleece Bamberger, a couple of French and German descent who are forced to flee to Africa to avoid the war.

However, although Africa seems to be a safe place for them to wait it out, it turns out not to be as Rudolf, is quickly roped in by Ludwig Janke, an Abwehr spymaster who threatens him to work for him. All the while Aleece has found herself a job working for the British consulate but soon things will change for both of them as this espionage thriller slowly unravels and this book lovers is the premise of the sensational To Live Another Day!

The story of To Live Another Day is a stellar one that had me intrigued from the very start. I love any story with an espionage theme, so I knew from the beginning that To Live Another Day would deliver thanks to this theme and wow did it! From the start the reader is immediately thrust into the thick of the story, the reader will feel as if their breath has been knocked out of them by how fast the reader is pushed into the thick of the plot and it made for a thrilling and memorable start!

J.R. Rogers is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Rogers, instead of writing a long build-up thrusts his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is immersed and captivated by the story quickly. I am impressed by Roger’s ability and decision to place the reader in the thick of the drama early on because sometimes a long build-up can kill the story before it has even started, so I am impressed with Rogers for his excellent plot device!

J.R. Rogers is not only brilliant at weaving intelligent plot devices throughout his book; plot devices such as twists and turns and shocking moments, to entertain his readers, but he is also a fantastic writer for his descriptive literature. The descriptive powers of Rogers will immerse the reader in the novel as they will be able to imagine the unfolding drama entirely and it made for a captivating read!

To conclude, To Live Another Day is a chilling, thought-provoking and captivating story that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights, I, of course, have to award the thrilling book five stars!
