RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

The Man Dance, Leslie M. Rollins

THE MAN DANCE is a three-part coming-of-age novel set in 1960s Britain. Leaving his idyllic upbringing in Cornwall, young George barely has time to adjust to London when he’s shipped off to a boarding school. There, he gets caught in a damaging relationship that shatters his confidence, even as his looks and talent for dance attract attention. An alternate personality emerges to help him survive. As a teen, George deceives those closest to him. But when an American couple enters his life, it’s Jill, the lonely housewife, who gets wise to his behavior. While her husband offers George a shot at stardom, Jill becomes his true ally and the one who helps him pursue his dreams. When he lands a part on a TV series, his undealt-with issues threaten to derail his fame—especially when sparked by a figure from his past. George must find a way to save his sanity, his job, and keep the heart of his dearest Jill.

The Man Dance is an excellent book that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the novel, George. The Man Dance will take the reader back to 1960’s England, and it is here that the journey begins, in the quaint town of Cornwall. However, we won’t be staying with George in Cornwall for long because he and the reader will be thrust into London quickly and it is here that he attends boarding school and learns some hard truths while there. Certain events take place, and it shatters a part of George’s personality, and an almost alter ego comes out, one that could spell trouble. I read The Man Dance on a recommendation from someone in Leslie Rollins’ writers’ group. This is an excellently written book with characters who are very much alive and colorful. This book handles a delicate topic with care and compassion and keeps the reader riveted to the story all the way to the end. Highly recommended!

Thank you, Aimee Ann, for your lovely review. George, and the other characters, have crowded my head for decades. They were overdue to get their own residence! As a reader, I too love to be transported to another time and place. I’ve always been interested in post-war Britain and the ‘Swinging London’ era.

Thank you, Anne, for wanting to buy this book. It comes in Kindle/e-book formats and as a paperback (376 pages). Here is a universal book link that will take you to various stores.
