In a land of magic where parallel worlds are just a portal away, civil war rages.
Saran and Keiler are elemental mages bound by love and sorcery: one destined to rule a kingdom, the other to destroy it. Five years ago, Saran reached into Keleir Ahriman’s heart and imprisoned the demon within him, tying her soul to his. Together, they’ve conspired against Saran’s father—a fanatical king who worships that world-ending demon inside Keleir, a being known as the Vel d’Ekaru. When Saran risks everything to save a village of innocent people, the king rips her magic away, splintering the wall she built around Keleir’s heart. Powerless and desperate, Saran struggles to see her rebellion finished and stop Keleir from becoming the Vel d’Ekaru–the Living God.
In a world that is equal parts magic and political intrigue, heroine and hero must now battle their way back to each other if they are to overcome their doomed destinies.
The Living God is a novel I was keen to read as the book caught my attention right away thanks to its description which alludes to a parallel world, magic and so much more which all intrigued me. Now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what The Living God did to me. That is why I am already going to recommend The Living God to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but The Living God is a novel not to be missed!
The Living God for me was thrilling, captivating, and addictive right from the start, and I felt this from beginning to end. The Living God was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Kaytalin McCarry who from the beginning hooked me with her unique story.
The Living God is a breathtaking novel that will introduce the reader to the stars of the book Saran and Keleir. Saran and Keleir are ‘elemental mages,’ and both of them have very different destinies, one to rule a kingdom and the other to destroy it. The reader will follow Saran and Keleir on a journey like no other. It all started when Saran imprisoned the demon with Keleir; however, Saran’s father, the king, is obsessed with the demon inside Keleir and worships it. When Saran’s powers are ripped from her after a heroic act, the very magic that is stopping the demon is ripped from her, so is the chains on Vel d’Ekaru and soon she will have to stop the turmoil that will unfold, and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible The Living God!
The premise of The Living God is exceptional, original, and unlike anything, I have read before. I loved the many themes and elements explored throughout the book, and all themes are explored by McCarry wonderfully, and she does this by lacing these interesting themes throughout the text flawlessly and weaving them with the story. The result of this makes The The Living God a highly addictive and fascinating read that is never once lackluster or predictable.
Kaytalin McCarry is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp her reader’s attention from the first page. McCarry instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in fantasy novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust her reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed.
Kaytalin McCarry is not only a brilliant writer for her ability to captivate the reader’s attention straight away, but she is also an excellent author for her ability to lace exceptional twists and turns throughout her story that genuinely had me shocked at points! The combination of McCarry’s shocking twists and her explanatory powers will immerse the reader in the story and make them be able to visualize every detail, no matter how small.
Overall The Living God is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars!
