The Blow-Up Man is a psychological thriller that takes place in a dispirited region of West Texas. It is where pests, weeds, predators, and strong winds make living in the region a burden to most. West Texas is not a place for the weak …or a naive, young woman with a head full of fantasy. Thirty-year-old Faye has lived a sheltered life. With a deceased father, and an emotionally detached mother, Faye exists in a world derived from the imagination of the many authors she’s read …and falling in love means living happily ever after. Life without a father has left Faye with many unresolved issues. They’re major contributors to her falling long and hard for her older mentor, Dr. Todd Davis. He is a well-respected researcher in the area of pharmaceutical sciences, and it’s under his direction that Faye earns her PhD. Faye’s mother, Madeline Brady, is concerned about her daughter’s relationship with Todd. Faye interprets her concerns as intrusive, but its Todd’s age and baggage that cause Madeline to worry. Fourteen years ago, Todd had a relationship with a woman named Annette Dolce. Annette has father issues of her own. But unlike Faye, she’s impulsive, manipulative, and dangerous. She’s also the mother of Todd’s twin girls. Todd doesn’t want to believe that Annette is all bad. To do that, he must face that he gave his children that kind of mother. The righteous Todd will do whatever it takes for his children to believe in family; however, it’s his loneliness that pushes him towards the younger Faye. He wants to build a life with her. When Todd informs Annette of his decision to marry Faye, the psychologically disturbed Annette is pushed to the edge. The world of books has left Faye totally unprepared to deal with Annette. Does Faye have what it takes to overcome the toxic mistakes of Todd’s past, and the nightmare that is about to come true?

The Blow-up Man is an incredible novel that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the book, Faye. Faye is a 30-year old woman living in West Texas, and it is here that she has fallen madly in love with her older mentor, Dr. Todd Davis, an esteemed researcher in pharmaceutical sciences. Faye is somewhat of a naïve woman with her head in the clouds thanks to her love of books and happy ever afters, however, although she can’t see it, Faye’s mother is wary of Todd. Todd has a past that will soon reveal itself, and it involves an ex that will go to extreme lengths to not let Todd live the life he wants to with Faye and this is where our psychological thriller begins, and it should not be missed book lovers!
The story of The Blow-up Man is a stellar one that had me intrigued from the very start. I love any story with a thriller theme, so I knew from the beginning that The Blow-up Man would deliver thanks to this theme and wow did it! From the start the reader is immediately thrust into the thick of the story, the reader will feel as if their breath has been knocked out of them by how fast the reader is pushed into the thick of the plot. The Blow-up Man captured my attention immediately thanks to the fast-paced story, enigmatic characters, and a thrilling plot. As I read The Blow-up Man I was honestly in awe; it was like a present was being unwrapped before my eyes, and the more the pages turned, the more excited I got for the finale.
Nina Blakeman is a newly discovered author of mine, and I have to confess book lovers that I am kicking myself for not having found Blakeman’s work sooner! I am frustrated that I have not before because never before have I been so entertained with a thriller novel! To write a good novel the reader needs to be fully immersed in the story and feel as if they are experiencing the same events as the protagonist(s) and Blakeman manages to accomplish this with her writing in The Blow-up Man, so Blakeman is most certainly worthy of an abundance of praise. Not only is Nina Blakeman an outstanding writer for her ability to thrust her readers into the thick of the story, but she also is because she was able to describe all of the events that unravel perfectly. Every event and moment and even place is flawlessly described with a wealth of detail which in turn keeps the reader turning the pages.
Overall The Blow-up Man is a gripping novel that is guaranteed to keep readers entertained for hours on end so I, of course, have to award the story five stars! Be sure to have a read of the preview below book lovers; you will not regret it!
