Part travel, part romance, part failing at life, The Backpack Years intertwines two memoirs, charting Stef and James’s six-year journey from happily wandering to miserably settled and back again.
Straight-laced Stef left America to study abroad in Spain, letting loose and falling head over heels for two things: a handsome local and travel. Travel won out. James had a future in England he felt he’d already destroyed. Fueled by debt and a deteriorating relationship with his father, James fled to Australia and found something better.
After language mishaps in France and a topless night in Tenerife, an awful offal job in Warrnambool and a kidnapped manicure in Bali, Stef and James meet at an Irish pub in Sydney. Though their adventures are pulling them in different directions, they ditch the single life to forge a path together.
Can the two navigate their way through red-tape, relocation, miscommunication, and a last ditch, make-or-break trip to try to save their relationship, or will this be their last adventure as a couple?
Spanning thirteen countries and four continents, The Backpack Years is a story about how far we’re willing to go to be with the one we love.
The Backpack Years is a travel memoir with a twist that will take its readers on a moving and memorable journey across the world! The Backpack Years is a unique book as it is two memoirs, which make up one and will introduce the reader to Stefanie and James Wilson on their separate journeys across the world that become a combined one and it makes for an incredible read!
I have read a lot of travel memoirs as it is a genre I adore however The Backpack Years stands out amongst the genre thanks to the sensational journey shared by Stef and James and their combined compelling literature! Never before have I been so enchanted by a travel memoir but the authors Stefanie Wilson & James Wilson managed to compel me from the very start thanks to their honest and captivating writing. If you are a reader who adores travel memoirs or memoirs in general then The Backpack Years is for you as it is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
The Backpack Years will introduce the reader to the authors and narrators, Stefanie Wilson & James Wilson, who both share their individual stories which combined make one incredible journey that takes you on an adventure. The reader will meet Stefanie who left America to study abroad in Spain and the reader will meet James, who leaves England for Australia and it is here, in Sydney Australia the two meet and thus begin their journey together. What follows is an incredible story as they navigate their different lives together and it makes for a wonderful story that shouldn’t be missed!
In The Backpack Years, the reader is whisked away on a journey and Stefanie & James Wilson are so brilliantly descriptive about the places they visit, that the reader will feel as if they are right there experiencing every moment they do! What I love about this book so much is that it is a travel memoir but with unique themes as in The Backpack Years, Stefanie & James Wilson share their stories of adventure from many different places and the lessons they learn along the way, separately and together.
As well as this Stefanie Wilson & James Wilson are incredible people who I admire so much! There is much to admire about the author duo but one of the core attributes I admire about them is the fact that they have shared their story! Literature is an art form and it is there for stories to be told and shared, and stories like Stefanie & James Wilson’s should definitely be shared thanks to the many wonderful adventures they have shared!
As I read The Backpack Years, I found myself reading The Backpack Years at an alarming rate because it was captivating as well as engrossing; Stephanie & James Wilson’s incredible literature will have you turning the pages frantically, and I adored how they were able to do this. As well as Stefanie & James Wilson’s writing their book in an incredibly compelling way, they also are excellent at describing the settings and places in this book. Their beautiful descriptive writing of the places they visit will make the reader feel as if you are right there, this is how I felt, and because I did, I felt as if I was with Stefanie & James Wilson on their adventures and that for me was incredibly wonderful!
