Abuse & Substance Abuse, Health & Well Being, NonFiction, Parenting & Relationships, Poetry & Essay

Have you ever wondered if social drinking has unintended consequences to your health, family, relationships, or your profession? Have you ever thought that losing control of your drinking couldn’t happen to you or someone you love? All the women you know are too smart. Too rich. Too kind. Too together. Too much fun. Pick one.

We live in a boozy culture, and the idea of women and wine has become entrenched. Is your book club really a “wine club”? Do you crave the release a drink can bring to cope with anxiety, parenthood, the pressures of being a mom, a wife/partner, a professional? In Raising the Bottom, mothers, daughters, health professionals, and young women share their stories of why they drank, how they stopped, and the joys and rewards of being present in their lives once they kicked alcohol to the curb.

Raising the Bottom is a moving, poignant and inspiring book courtesy of the author Lisa Boucher who throughout her book narrates her story alongside many other women who also share theirs. Raising the Bottom is an eye-opening book and will undoubtedly move its readers and make readers think twice about drinking and the drinking culture we live in today. The journey the reader is taken on is emotional, sometimes upsetting but it is an inspiring story above all that will move and touch its readers from start to finish. Raising the Bottom is a unique book because it is a memoir laced with anecdotes from numerous women all while they share advice which makes the book a combination of memoir and self-help which is terrific to me!

Raising the Bottom is an enlightening, honest and incredible memoir/self-help book courtesy of an exceptional woman. In Raising the Bottom, the reader will read about the author Lisa Boucher as well as many other women, and in the book, they share their experiences with alcohol. The stories are told from women from all walks of life; the reader will meet mothers, grandmothers, and even doctors and all of them are honest and open about their experience with alcohol and excessive drinking. In the book, they will share ‘why they drank, how they stopped’ and ultimately how much better their lives are without it. As well as this, the reader will also learn about drinking culture and how it is embedded into so many aspects of our everyday lives and Lisa Boucher shares this while also backing everything up with research.

Raising the Bottom is perfect for women who have struggled with excessive drinking as the reader will meet many women who have overcome this and that will be incredibly useful for these readers. However, if you have not struggled with alcohol then the book will still be useful as well as inspirational as it is a book that explores healing and overcoming and that can be used as motivation for everybody no matter your circumstance. That is why I recommend this book to all readers as it truly is wonderful and Lisa’s story needs to be read and appreciated.

Lisa Boucher’s story is one of the most shocking but inspirational stories I have ever read. Lisa’s and the other women’s journeys are upsetting at points because of the hardship some of them experienced. However, although the events throughout this book are sometimes hard-hitting, the primary feeling associated with this book is inspiration.

Lisa Boucher is an incredible woman for many reasons, but one of the reasons she is so wonderful is because she brazenly shares her story to help readers all while she shares other women’s stories. I adore how Lisa did not hold back on the details of hardships, and it makes for profound reading. The reader won’t be able not to admire Lisa and the other women featured in the book for all that they have been through and their journey. So if you are a reader who loves to get lost in stories full of ups and downs that are incredibly moving and inspirational, then Raising the Bottom is for you!

Overall Raising the Bottom, is an incredibly inspirational, informative and honest tale. It takes a lot for a person to be so honest and to tell their tale so I admire Lisa and the other women featured for doing just this and sharing their tale in the hope that they can help others. As Raising the Bottom is one of the most inspirational tales I have ever read, I have no choice but to award this incredible book a dazzling five stars as it truly deserves it!
