RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Once Upon A Girl, Katie Keridan

Literature & Fiction, Poetry & Essay

Once Upon a Girl is a collection of poetry and prose about reinventing myself when the life I thought I wanted ultimately fell apart. It’s about realizing that I could put the broken pieces of myself back together any way I wanted. And so can you.

Once Upon a Girl is a poetry book I was desperate to read ever since discovering it. I love poetry but only if the poems that are written are poignant, moving and will provoke my thoughts about life and myself and Once Upon a Girl holds many poems that do just this. I love poetry, but sadly these days poems do not read as nicely as some classics, but I found with Once Upon a Girl that they did because the words flowed beautifully from start to finish and transfixed me and compelled me from beginning to end and so I am already going to recommend this gem of a book! However, if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more about this gem!

Once Upon a Girl is a collection of poems about a topic I do not want to spoil but the topics featured are moving, and poignant ones and will definitely challenge your thoughts. The poems are mostly short and quick poems but just because they are short does not mean they have little meaning and poignancy, in fact, they are incredibly profound and will definitely stay in readers memories for a long time, and that is just one quality I love about the incredible Once Upon a Girl.

The book is roughly 190 pages long so the reader will get to read a host of different poems and I admit book lovers that they really do pack a punch and although a lot of them are emotional, they should still be read because it would be near impossible for somebody to not fall in love with the poems written in Once Upon a Girl.

The poems laced throughout Once Upon a Girl are so brilliant and unique that I have not been able to stop thinking about them. As soon as I would finish one I would end up re-reading it because I wanted to immerse myself in it again and understanding the true meaning. I love immersing myself in a poem and reading it from different perspectives, and the wonderful author Katie Keridan challenges her readers to do this.

Katie Keridan is a newly discovered poet of mine, but I wish I had discovered her work sooner because never before have I been so transfixed by poems. I have read a lot of poems in my time, especially since a young age but never have I ever been so provoked by the ones in Once Upon a Girl, emotionally and mentally. Keridan does this with her mesmerizing prose and well developed and structured poems. The poems truly will keep readers turning the pages from beginning to end.

Overall Once Upon a Girl is a sensational, unique, and beautiful poetry book that should not be missed, I, of course, have to award this stellar book five stars! So please, have a read of Once Upon a Girl and get lost in the captivating words of Katie Keridan and be compelled to read from the very beginning to the very end… you will not regret it!
