Maverick is a poetry book I was excited to discover because poetry books of this nature need to be read and loved by everyone as they explore such poignant subjects that shouldn’t be missed. I was eager to get lost in Maverick and I can already say that I loved it! And it lived up to my expectations and exceeded them.

As I started to read Maverick I knew it was going to be incredible, from the start it had a beautiful effortless feel to it and was a joy to read. I read this book faster than I normally would a poetry book because it was just so addictive and captivating! And if that isn’t a sign of an incredible poetry book then I don’t know what is book lovers. That is why I already recommend you lovely readers have a read of Maverick, however, if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more about the wonderful Maverick!

Maverick is a stunning collection of prose combined with photojournalism that explores the east side of San Antonio, Texas. It has been a long time since I have read a book that combines these two genres and I found it to be incredible and deeply moving – to witness the photographs along with the poignant words. It makes for an incredible book that will leave a lasting impact on readers and stand out amongst the crowd.

The poems laced throughout will make you feel a host of different emotions as you turn the pages and that is why I recommend this book to everybody, even those that don’t typically read poems! As I promise this will change your mind and make you a lover of poetry! This book is so easy to fall in love with and I hope everyone does.

The poems laced throughout Maverick are so brilliant and deeply personal too that I have not been able to stop thinking about them. As soon as I would finish one poem I would end up re-reading it because I wanted to immerse myself in it again and understand the true meaning or just re-read it for the enjoyment of it. That is the power of Rover Jr’s words and I love how Rover Jr’s challenges his readers to do this and to immerse themselves in his poetry. It made for a beautiful and captivating reading experience.

Fernando Rover Jr is a newly discovered poet of mine, but I wish I had discovered his work sooner because never before have I been so transfixed by poems! I have read a lot of poems in my time, especially since a young age but rarely am I so provoked in different ways by the ones in Maverick, as I felt they really did capture a wide range of emotions which is hard for a poet to accomplish. However, Rover Jr accomplishes this with his mesmerizing prose and unique poems.

Overall Maverick is a sensational, emotive, and beautiful poetry book that should not be missed, I, of course, have to award this stellar book five stars! So please, have a read of Maverick and get lost in the captivating and brilliant words of Fernando Rover Jr and be compelled to read from the very beginning to the very end… you will not regret it!
