RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

Losing Normal, Francis Moss

Everyone we love, everything we know, is going away… and only an autistic boy can stop it.
Alex knows exactly how many steps it takes to get from his home to Mason Middle School. This is normal.
Alex knows the answers in AP math before his teacher does, which is also normal.
Alex knows that something bad is coming out of the big screen in his special needs class. It’s pushing images into his head, hurting him, making him forget. Alex pushes back, the screen explodes, and nothing is normal any more.
Giant screen televisions appear all over the city. The programming is addictive. People have to watch, but Alex cannot.
Sophie, the sentient machine behind all this, sees the millions and millions of eyeballs glued to her and calls it love. To Sophie, kids like Alex are defective. Defectives are to be fixed…or eliminated.

Losing Normal is an incredible book I wanted to read ever since discovering it. I adore finding novels that feature protagonists with a disability and or learning disability and so when I read of an autistic protagonist who seems to be a hero, I was thrilled! That is why I was so excited to read and get lost in Losing Normal and wow, what a brilliant book! Readers now and then will come across that one book that blows them away and Losing Normal was that book for me. This is thanks to the unique premise, unlike anything I have read of or heard before, the incredible protagonist and the sensational literature courtesy of the author Francis Moss. That is why I am already going to recommend Losing Normal to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but Losing Normal is a novel not to be missed! However, if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more!

Losing Normal is a sensational, unique and thrilling novel that will take its readers on a journey like no other. In Losing Normal, the reader will learn that TVs are being placed everywhere, even in schools and have a dominant presence over society. The reader in Losing Normal will meet Alex, who while in class, notices something strange about the TV in his classroom, so much so that something bad is coming from It. However, Alex is autistic and very special and he can shut down the broadcast on the TV which seems to be affecting everybody but him.

Alex, however, will soon find himself in deep trouble as himself, and others like him, are the only ones that can stop the TV’s and the AI’s behind them. And thus the reader will be taken on a thrilling, fast-paced journey in which Alex must battle evil and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible Losing Normal!

Losing Normal is an addictive novel that hooked and captivated me from the beginning to the end. I was hooked early on thanks to the sharp opening and unique premise. I was fascinated by the premise and the overall story Francis Moss has written and so I was hooked from start to finish, constantly wanting to know more and see what would happen to the story I had become invested in! As well as this, the premise of Losing Normal is exceptional, original and unlike anything I have read before. Francis Moss really has accomplished the near-impossible, Moss has managed to write an entertaining, bewitching and flawless story that will perfectly unfold in readers’ minds like a movie and now that I think about it, why is this book not a movie already!

Francis Moss is an excellent writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Moss instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in dystopian/thriller novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with Moss, the reader will not encounter this issue because Moss instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

To conclude, Losing Normal is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so, I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars! So be sure to have a read of the preview below and get reading! You won’t regret it, book lovers.
