Lion is a dramatic, thrilling, and exciting novel that will keep readers entertained, captivated, and engrossed from start to finish. Political/thriller reads are my go-to read and even more so when they have a unique twist; Lion does have this because it is a novel that combines thriller with realistic political events that will take readers on an unforgettable and thrilling journey. Now that I have finished Lion I can honestly write that never before have I been so captivated by a thriller read and this is thanks to the sensational author Douglas Misquita whose work captivated me from start to finish!
Lion is a thrilling, moving, and shocking novel based around a Syrian War that has ‘split into its sixth year’ and the reader in the incredible Lion will meet many characters on their turbulent journey. One of these characters is the protagonist, Aslan ‘The Lion’ Terzi who, very early on in the novel, is brutally tortured in prison, over and over again with no end in sight. This leads Aslan to the brink of suicide, but one day, everything changes when a military unit strikes the prison until it is completely destroyed, but luckily, Aslan survives. This forces Aslan to flee and gives him a sense of hope and he decides to leave Syria, but when he reaches the border a woman draws him back, and this book lovers is the short premise of the incredible Lion!
When I read the description of Lion I was hooked, after all, I love thriller novels and love even more when they have a twist, so I was hooked and ready to go. However, when I started to read Lion, I was shocked by just how good the literature and the story was and so I raced through this novel desperate to find out what would happen to the characters I had grown to love and hate. Every now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what Lion did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read it!
Lion for me was thrilling, captivating, and addictive right from the start, and I felt this from beginning to end. Lion was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author who hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a political thriller novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a thriller story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! Lion does have some action-packed moments; however, they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky, which is always fantastic in a book!
Douglas Misquita is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Misquita instead of writing long, drawn-out build-ups which are commonly found in novels decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I love this approach; what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly, but with Misquita, the reader will not encounter this issue because Misquita instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.
Douglas Misquita has ensured that no stone is left unturned with his book. Misquita has managed to craft and develop a highly entertaining story that weaves suspense with intrigue with action and the result of these themes, which are all expertly spun together by Misquita, is a thrilling story that is worthy of every book lovers read! The situation and events Misquita have managed to create are phenomenal, and every immaculate detail is well thought out.
Overall Lion is a magnificent, brilliant and entertaining novel that will keep readers guessing from beginning to end so I, of course, have to award this exciting book five stars! So please, if you are a reader who loves to be taken on a thrilling journey, then Lion is for you!
