Christopher Stephen Soden received his MFA in Poetry from Vermont College of Fine Arts in January of 2005. He teaches craft, theory, genre and literature. He writes poetry, plays, literary, film and theatre critique for sharpcritic.com and EdgeDallas. Christopher’s poetry collection, Closer was released by Rebel Satori Press on June 14th, 2011. He received a Full Fellowship to Lambda Literary’s Retreat for Emerging LGBT Voices in August 2010. His performance piece: Queer Anarchy received The Dallas Voice’s Award for Best Stage Performance. Water and A Christmas Wish were staged at Bishop Arts and Radio Flyer and Every Day is Christmas. In Heaven. at Nouveau 47. Other honors include: Distinguished Poets of Dallas, Poetry Society of America’s Poetry in Motion Series, Founding Member, President and President Emeritus of The Dallas Poets Community. Gusher is an incredible and moving poetry book that needs to be read by everyone as everyone will be able to relate and adore the words laced throughout Gusher. Some poetry books move you more than usual and this was that book for me as its poems laced throughout Gusher were truly captivating, honest and moving.
Gusher made me fall in love with poetry all over again and I am so thankful to the author Christopher Stephen Soden for this! Many poetry books can be over complicated and do not tell a concise message but Gusher does just this. The poems laced throughout Gusher will touch many readers I believe, they explore many different themes that will move you in different ways. There is a poem for everyone in Gusher and that is one of the many amazing things about it.
Gusher is a poignant collection of poems that will leave a lasting impact on readers. In Gusher, the author Christopher Stephen Soden will share his life with us readers, being honest and open with us sharing all that he has encountered, including the hardships and abuses he suffered. Soden poignantly writes beautifully moving poems about all he has experienced and it makes for a raw and honest collection of poems that shouldn’t be missed.
Gusher is a phenomenal collection of unique and moving poems written by Christopher Stephen Soden that will take its readers on a transfixing and thought-provoking journey from start to finish. As I read Gusher, I found myself engrossed in each and every poem from beginning to end, and when I would finish reading one I would find myself reading two, even three more times! That is the power of this poetry book and it is all thanks to its raw nature, and the phenomenal words courtesy of Christopher Stephen Soden.
Christopher Stephen Soden is a newly discovered poet of mine, and I already know great things are ahead of him thanks to his words in Gusher! I am so thrilled to have found Soden’s work and I hope he continues to write as his work really is that great! This is a testament too to how wonderful his book is, it transfixed and hooked me and I am already excited for what else Soden may write in the future.
To conclude my thoughts on the incredible Gusher, I would say this collection of poems is sensational, beautiful, and mesmerizing! That is why I have no choice but to award this book five stars.
