Godfrey’s Crusade is the first installment of the Griffin Legends series. It’s a fantasy novel with a 106,035 word count. It has a mixture of martial and religious themes; we’re going on a crusade here after all if the title didn’t give it away, it has a carefully chosen combination of fantasy and real historical elements, its plot structure is increasingly complex throughout; at no point can any of the major characters simply return to status quo without enormous consequences; and it has powerful inciting incidents and pinch points, conflict points of course, leading to a definitive resolution and conclusion.
Here’s the plot. A crusade is called to aid the Kingdom of Azgald in the distant Nordslands, and the young idealistic knight Godfrey does not hesitate to volunteer. Yet Godfrey soon learns that the greatest threat to the expedition’s success is not the savage clans under High Warlord Alvir and the Great Witch of the North, Nera, or the orcs and cyclopes that fight beside the clans, but the rivalries among the crusaders themselves. Can Godfrey interpret the vision granted to him by the gods and unite the crusaders with his holy blade? Will his love, Madeline, be able to keep her magical powers hidden from suspicious priests and opportunistic lords? Will they be able to stop Nera and Alvir from unleashing an ancient evil upon Azgald, or will Godfrey and his friends all meet a bitter end in the frigid Nordslands?
Godfrey’s Crusade is a dramatic, thrilling, and exciting start of a new series that will keep readers entertained, captivated, and engrossed from the very first page. Fantasy stories are currently my go-to read so when I read the description of Godfrey’s Crusade I knew that I had to read it as well as review it so that all you lovely readers could read about it. Godfrey’s Crusade is an incredible novel that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the book, Godfrey, an eager Knight who volunteers to be a part of a crusade to aid the Kingdom of Azgald. Along the way Godfrey will face many obstacles, not just outward forces and mythical beings but also obstacles within the crusades themselves. The reader will follow Godrey as he tries to unite everyone and do what he must and this book lovers is the short premise of the incredible Godfrey’s Crusade!
The story of Godfrey’s Crusade is excellent and incredibly well-developed thanks to Mark Howard, the author of the book. Howard manages to develop his world with immaculate detail; every event, character, and setting is well thought out and planned, and I was impressed by Howard’s flawless ability to do this. As I read Godfrey’s Crusade, I immediately was drawn into the book and felt captivated by Howard’s spellbinding literature. Howard’s writing is detailed in the most immaculate of ways; the text is detailed but not too dense, it is beautifully written so that the reader will be able to immerse themselves in the story from beginning to end without difficulty.
Not only is Mark Howard a talented author for his descriptive powers, but he is also a phenomenal writer thanks to his characterization of the protagonist of the novel Godfrey. Howard has essentially written a character study of Godfrey, and I adore this approach in literature because it makes the story even more immersive and entertaining for a reader. Being able to accompany Godfrey on his journey was incredible; it was remarkable to witness his awakening and discovery of certain things and even more brilliant to observe how he finds his way.
Because Mark Howard captivates his readers from the start, the reader will feel as if they are in the same situation as Godfrey; they too will be finding their way through the tumultuous landscape and feel the same emotions of fear and excitement just as Godrey does. Godfrey’s Crusade is a truly immersive experience and so if you adore reading novels that you can be a part of then this story is for you!
As Godfrey’s Crusade is a dramatic, compelling, and action-packed adventure that will entertain and delight readers for hours on end, I, of course, have to review this incredible book five stars!
