The purpose of this book is to reveal the creative joy of artwork to children, at an early age. Children’s books are usually full of illustrations that tell a story. This collection of artworks are drawings and paintings that were completed by Gregory C. Werner over the course of a few years. He also loved to tell stories.
This book tells the story of JuneJune; a baby elephant who is excited about going to the watering hole. Gathering at the watering hole allows him to play with his friends, share lessons learned, and learn new things that have occurred since the last time they gathered at the watering hole. They also get dirty from playing, and then clean up for the journey home (which is also fun). These life lessons are significant to the growing and inquisitive minds of children. They lay the foundation for socialization with peers, and establish a solid bedrock to fall back upon when peer pressures get heavier as they start to grow. The story of JuneJune also tells them that it’s okay to be alone – so long as they are safe and having fun.
The story of JuneJune (even thought he was born in July) is our interpretation of Gregory C. Werner’s artwork. We hope that we have honored him with our presentation, and pray that children will be inspired to freely express their unique gifts and talents through art.

It was evident to me from the start that the author duo are passionate writers who surely love entertaining children with their literature and putting a smile on children’s faces.
Gathering at the Watering Hole is a fast-paced story that flows perfectly from beginning to end. With children’s books, you have to make sure they are always captivated because children’s attention wavers quite quickly, and I already know this author duo doesn’t have an issue with this! As their book is captivating from the get-go and will be able to capture children’s attention with ease.
