Thank you for joining us today at Red Headed Book Lover! Please tell us more about yourself.

I began my writing career with the full-length play Pajama Party. Producing the full stage play with a cast of nine girls marked one of my hardest endeavors. For three and a half years I published the Confidence in Life newsletter, in addition to writing tracts and devotionals, for a ministry I started. Teaching a women’s Bible study at my church for eleven years naturally led to writing inspirational romance novels and teen and young adult fiction. My mission is spiritual maturity in the body of Christ through fiction.

The Write Way: A Real Slice of Life is the slogan on my website and Facebook author page. If every person reading my book feels connected to the characters, my job is done.

Could you please tell us readers about your book and what inspired you to write your book?

Lifelong dreams are often abandoned whenever circumstances fall below our expectations. People often relinquish ideas when deluged with adverse situations. It’s easy to drift into apathy, which may develop into a complacent attitude. Sometimes we misinterpret our own stagnation. However, those behavioral patterns can even infect the mindset of our children and grandchildren and distort the outlook of future generations.

Although The Certain Hope is one book in the sea of many tomes, I aspire to spark memories of each buried aspiration in the heart of every reader and inspire them into forward movement. Every God-given dream deserves fruition.

What would your advice be for aspiring writers?

Regardless of self-doubt, fear, or lack of time and support from others, nurture the gift God blessed you with. Ignore naysayers and criticizers even after the book is published. Reviews are the opinions of the reviewer. Positive critiques will help you polish your work. Irrelevant analysis adds nothing to your mission.  Dismiss it and move on.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?

The effect it has on the reader’s life. In my opinion, books should engage a person’s imagination and sharpen their forward movement. Books should provide information and stimulate the psyche for the good, thus leaving the person in a better state than when they began reading.

What is your writing process like?

I sit at my computer with the book title, main characters’ names, and little else. The story evolves as I write it, and then I hurry to catch up.

What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

Once the story unfolds, I spot research as needed. In The Certain Hope I discovered Tara owned a classic car collection. Classic automobiles? Really? Then the scramble was on to make the information as believable as possible. In each of my books, I’ve had multiple dig-deeper opportunities. I’ve loved it!

Do you have a set schedule for writing, or do you only write when you feel inspired?

I write daily and prefer to begin writing in the wee hours of the morning. But, because of the day job, except on Saturdays, I usually begin writing in the evening and on into the night.

Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?

I love reading and particularly enjoy regency romance books and contemporary YA books. My all-time favorite author is Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is my number one book. I read a variety of traditional and self-published authors. One particular YA book, that in my opinion should be made into a movie, comes to mind: Never As It Seems by Lou D’Errico.

Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?

The fourth book in the hope-themed series is due out in the fall. None of the previous characters are repeated in any of the books. Each book stands alone.
