DreamPhaze, Matt Watters

Dystopian & Post Apocalyptic, Science Fiction & Space Opera

When we sleep we dream. Everyone dreams.

Imagine participating in dream experiences indiscernible from real life with friends and strangers. In the near future, Saxon Zynn and his team develop transformative technology which takes dreaming to whole new level, mainstream entertainment.

Opportunities and obstacles of this technology collide with the real world. Not everyone welcomes a technology that manipulates dreams, and of course, there are those individuals who push the envelope for their own gratification or the gratification of others.

Go anywhere, experience anything, all in the safety of your own mind. Dreaming is now an adventure…

DreamPhaze is a unique, stellar and captivating series that fascinated as well as entertained me from start to finish. DreamPhaze is unique, book lovers as it is a story created and written by the author Matt Watters that is described by Watters as ‘serial web fiction.’ The genre is science fiction, and the author on his website (please see the link below!) writes episodes of his book (which is essentially a chapter), and on the 15th of each month he releases a new episode. I admit that when I discovered DreamPhaze I was desperate to read it, I adore finding unique books and fantastic stories so when I read the premise of DreamPhaze and learned that it is different to your average novel, I knew I had to read it and review it for all of you lovely readers! Today I will be reviewing the first eight episodes book lovers, however, more episodes are being released and will continue to do so, so if you are interested please do have a look at the links below and subscribe!

DreamPhaze is an incredible book that grabbed my attention ever since discovering it thanks to the mention of a technology that turns dreaming into ‘mainstream entertainment.’  I adore science fiction and even more so when a rare topic is explored and I have never read a book with this premise so I was excited to get started. DreamPhaze could in part be described as dystopian fiction, and I love dystopian fiction and love even more when they are based on potential realities because although it is scary, it is informative as well as entertaining so it is safe for me to write that I was in my element while reading DreamPhaze!

Now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what DreamPhaze did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read the episodes! That is when you know book lovers that you have come across an incredible book when you are thinking of it when you have a million things to do. That is why I am already going to recommend DreamPhaze to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but DreamPhaze is a novel not to be missed.

DreamPhaze is a phenomenal book that will take readers on a journey to the near future in which technological advancements are being made every day. The reader will be introduced to the protagonist, Saxon Zynn and he and his team have developed a new type of technology that gives people the ability to participate in dream experiences… I know book lovers, how crazy but brilliant is this! In the near future dreams are the new mainstream entertainment and they can provide great excitement to those willing to participate. However, with technology can come manipulation and people can become too invested, to the point where it is dangerous. The reader will follow the characters in the series through this terrifying but fascinating new technology and this book lovers is the premise of the sensational DreamPhaze.

DreamPhaze for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. DreamPhaze was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Matt Watters who hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a dystopian/science fiction novel that is refreshing and it is even more challenging to discover a dystopian story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! DreamPhaze does have some action-packed moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!

Matt Watters is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Watters instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with Watters, the reader will not encounter this issue because Watters instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

Overall DreamPhaze is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so, I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars! If you are a reader who loves dystopia, science fiction or even fantasy then I implore you to read DreamPhaze; it is a fast-paced, action adventure that should not be missed!
