Born to Fight is a captivating, thrilling and dramatic book that kept me turning the pages with haste into the early hours of the morning. Born to Fight is a massive book because it contains five novels written by the author Jay J. Falconer and these five books have been compiled into this one mammoth book and wow, what a journey! I admit the 900-page length of this book will appear daunting to many readers and sure, even I usually stay away from books with such a significant amount of pages. However, when I read the description of Born to Fight and then read the preview, I knew that this was a book I had to read and share with you lovely readers. Upon reading Born to Fight, I knew that this was going to be an incredible read because the story from the start is well developed and intriguing and thank god it was because I would hate to read a 900-page book if it was not engaging or entertaining!
Born to Fight will take its readers on a vast and thrilling journey and the journey the reader encounters is unlike anything readers will have read before. Sure, there are themes of the military, terrorism, and action but these themes are unique and written originally so that the book stands out amongst the crowd. I love military fiction but sadly many of these books now are generic but Born to Fight is far from this! Born to Fight is a unique book thanks to the premise and the terrorist attack at the heart of the novel. The terrorist attack in itself is unique because it is a new kind of terrorist attack which the world will most likely witness one day and the story that unfolds around this is original and constantly evolving and changing so that the reader is continuously captivated and turning the pages!
Born to Fight is a collection of five stories so I am going to be careful to spoil the plot; however, I will be discussing the general premise of the entire book. The protagonist and star of the series is called Jack Bunker, Jack is a former Marine who served as a combat engineer, but now he is no longer serving and has retired to the beautiful mountains of Colorado. I thought the setting of Colorado was exceptional because a lot of Marines retire in Colorado thanks to the many benefits and services to veterans so already I am impressed by the author’s knowledge of this! As I was writing, the star of the series is Jack Bunker, a former Marine who, for reasons I can’t discuss is now living in Colorado trying to live a peaceful life away from war and destruction. However, peace never lasts long, and soon Jack will find that the enemy has attacked his homeland and the attack is disastrous and a new kind of attack… a sophisticated attack. Jack is aware of all things military, and he knows that things will soon escalate and when he discovers ‘suspicious activity’ at a ‘high-security military facility’ he will be forced back into action. Jack needs help if he is going to stop the attack he believes is coming and so the reader will follow Jack on his journey as he tries to transform the local people into warriors to help him if the worst happens. However, Jack has a past one full of many secrets, some that he is ashamed of and will try to hide at all costs and this will complicate matters for him. The reader will follow Jack on his journey to fight back and do what he is good at, and this book lovers is the premise of this thrilling novel that should not be missed!
The story of Born to Fight is exceptional and each book within Born to Fight is well developed and entertaining. My one concern with Born to Fight is that I worried I would get bored halfway through because let’s face it book lovers, many series flop around book three. I admit I was worried about this, but I found that when I did reach book three within Born to Fight that I was pleasantly surprised by Falconer’s ability to keep invigorating new life into each book and to keep the story continually entertaining and gripping. Before reading any book I always have a read of fellow readers reviews because they are essential and I noticed that every book has received glowing reviews, I mean the first in the Bunker series has over 400 positive reviews! I mention this because again, I did worry when I got into the series that maybe I should not have got my hopes up but as I read the books I discovered that yes, all those book lovers were right! Born to Fight is honestly an exceptional collection of stories and each story is wildly entertaining and explores many poignant themes such as somber ones and action-packed ones.
The author of Born to Fight Jay J. Falconer has ensured that no stone is left unturned with each book. Falconer has managed to craft and develop a highly entertaining story that weaves suspense with intrigue with action and the result of these themes, which are all expertly spun together by Falconer, is a thrilling story that is worthy of every book lovers read! The situation and events Falconer has managed to create are phenomenal, and every immaculate detail is well thought out. The book itself is one that is full of a wealth of creativity, what struck me around book three is that Falconer is incredibly creative and artistic because it is hard to write one book, let alone five! And what is even harder is to make sure that the books do not become repetitive or lackluster, so it is safe for me to write that I am impressed by Falconer’s literature! Oh, and I need to quickly mention that the action scenes and descriptions of the battles were glorious and played out in my mind like a movie! That is when you know a book is good book lovers when you start to visualize every detail and forget that you are even reading!
Jay J. Falconer is an incredible author who is clearly creative because his work is beyond the norm and weaves a fascinating story that is entertaining, original and intricate. I am genuinely impressed with how well Falconer has developed his story because from the start the foundations were set and from that point onwards he just continued to develop the plot and expand on it which was incredible to be a part of. The explanatory powers courtesy of Falconer laced throughout the book are brilliant, Falconer so perfectly describes the events in the book that the reader will be able to immerse themselves in the story.
Overall Born to Fight is a magnificent, brilliant and entertaining novel that will keep readers guessing from beginning to end so I, of course, have to award this exciting book five stars! So please, if you are a reader who loves action and adventure and wants to be taken on a thrilling journey, then Born to Fight is for you!
