The reader in ALAM: Beginnings will be taken back in time to the 80s where we witness a galactic war in the Andromeda galaxy between the vicious Rigions and the brave Zorians. Rigions are responsible for great death and destruction throughout the galaxy but soon there is hope in the form of Alam – who has been prophesied to bring harmony and balance to the universe.

The reader will be introduced to the protagonist of the tale, Shawn, whose life is turned upside down once again when his mother, who was previously thought dead, is now back and soon has to untangle a web of secrets. This story truly did astound me with its captivating narration and thought-provoking plotline in which many twists and turns occur. As well as it being an excellent, gritty novel, it is also a unique, diverse one and I have to say that I adored this because I was getting very tired of reading the same old fantasy books so thank you, Akil O. Smith, for writing a novel that is fresh, exciting and gripping!

Akil O. Smith can only be described as a talented, accomplished writer who knows what a reader wants in a great story. As I read ALAM: Beginnings, I read every sentence slowly so that I could absorb all of the book’s information; I felt as if I was there and it made for an immersive reading experience. Smith is an excellent writer who is well accomplished, and his work astounded me from the very beginning thanks to his original plot, as well as his compelling characters that in turn made me invest in the story even more!

To conclude my thoughts on the captivating tale that is ALAM: Beginnings, I would say if you are bored with the same old books then take a chance with this gem because you will not be disappointed. It has everything you would want in a great story, and that is spine-tingling good content, dynamic, memorable characters, and a brilliant author.
