Thank you for joining us today at Red Headed Book Lover! Please tell us more about yourself
I have been a teacher for nearly ten years, and during this time, I have traveled to many schools across Western Australia, where I reside. I have worked in hard-to-staff schools in the Pilbara as well as in remote Aboriginal communities. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, as it allows me to combine my passion for teaching with my love of travel.
Tell us a little about how this story first came to be.
Resilient began as a small idea planted in my mind. My primary thought was to create a strong female protagonist who embodied the admirable trait of resilience. From that starting point, I envisioned various scenarios that evolved. As the concept developed, characters were introduced, and dialogue between the main characters unfolded. Once I started writing these ideas down, the narrative began to flow. My initial visions often took unexpected turns, especially if I felt that a particular scene wasn’t working
What is your writing process like?
I went through several drafts of my manuscript—at least three, though it could have been more. Each time I reviewed the story, I found myself making changes and edits to various parts to ensure everything flowed smoothly and resonated with readers. I’ve learned that many authors grapple with knowing when to finalize their work and move on. That’s why I believe it’s crucial to have your book professionally edited; a fresh set of eyes can provide invaluable insights and help identify areas for improvement that you might miss after countless revisions.
Do you have a set schedule for writing, or do you only write when you feel inspired?
I strive to write each day. However, there are moments when I find myself facing the infamous ‘writer’s block,’ where inspiration feels elusive, and I’m unable to choose a direction for my story. On other days, my mind overflows with vivid ideas, compelling me to capture them on the page before they slip away.
Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?
My next book, “Courageous,” is currently being edited. I am hopeful that it will be published by the beginning of June this year. This book is particularly special to me because it delves into the lives of three characters: Clark, Gun, and Vin. Their story explores the complexities of mental health, a topic that resonates with many individuals as they navigate their own struggles and challenges. Through their experiences, I aim to shed light on the importance of understanding mental health and the various ways people cope with it. I’m truly excited to share their journey and the lessons they learn along the way.
