Woven, Bree Moore

Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Magical Realism

For thirty years, Elaina has sat in her tower, fingers caught in an eternal dance, cursed to weave the tapestry of life on her loom. Bound by an enchanted mirror whose magic shows her the distant lives of the people of Camelot, she must forever watch a land which remains ever beyond her reach. Elaina despairs that she will never experience more than just the shadows of life, until one day a face appears in the mirror that will change her life, and possibly her fate, forever.

Guinevere is losing her mind. When a severe injury to her head nearly kills her and awakens alternate personalities suppressed from her past, Guinevere learns that one of them is plotting with a knight of the round table to murder King Arthur and take control of Camelot. In the midst of war, Guinevere fights to save both her own life and the man she loves, each day coming closer to succumbing to the violent personalities within her.

Inspired by Arthurian legend and Lord Alfred Tennyson’s ballad, “The Lady of Shalott”, Woven spins a tale of two women who must risk everything to save those they love most into an epic of enchantment, love, and madness.

Woven is a dramatic, thrilling and exciting novel that will keep readers entertained, captivated and engrossed from the very first page. Fantasy/myths and legends stories are currently my go-to read so when I read the description of Woven and learned that it was inspired by the legend of King Arthur I was sold and knew that I had to read it as well as review it so that all you lovely readers could read about it. Never before have I been so captivated by a legends story and this is thanks to the exceptional author Bree Moore who managed to delight me effortlessly with her tale that is unique and unlike anything I have read before.

Woven is an incredible novel, one that I was very excited to read when I read the description which alludes to many intriguing and even poignant themes. I adore mythology and I love fairy tales, and I admit, I have read many of this nature but Woven is different and stands out amongst the crowd thanks to the unique and modern twist placed on the legend at the heart of this story. When I read that it was an adaption I admit that the old me was a little scared because usually, adaptations fail, but Woven was calling my name, and I knew it would fulfill my ‘mythology needs’ and it really did book lovers!

Woven is a multi-layered novel with many plot avenues which are all perfectly weaved together by the exceptional author Bree Moore. In Woven the reader will be introduced to two female protagonists who both live very different lives and have their own unique personalities. The first is Elaina, and Elaina lives a sheltered life as she has been cursed to ‘weave the tapestry of life’ in a tower in which she is completely isolated. The only sight that Elaina can see is what an enchanted mirror shows her and this mirror ‘shows her the distant lives of the people of Camelot.’ Elaina is of course frustrated by this, but one day something happens… something I would not dare spoil book lovers and this is a pivotal moment in her life which has the ability to change her life forever.

Guinevere is the second female protagonist, and she is a feisty character who has experienced significant trauma thanks to a traumatic accident that nearly took her life. However, Guinevere survives the accident however she awakes with numerous personalities inside of her, and one of these personalities can only be described as evil as it wants to murder King Arthur and take control of all of Camelot. I know book lovers, yes this book is insanely good! Even me writing about this book is making me want to re-read it!
