What I Can’t Say, Joan J. Bell

Poetry & Essay, Religion & Spirtuality

This collection of poetry is a raw and emotionally gripping tale told through a loose narrative style and imbued with Allred’s passion and personality. It retains a beautiful and haunting style of composition in which we are given an unfettered look into the thought processes -however different than our own- of mental illness and the brutal honesty of it. The often lyrical style and lightness of the rhyme arrangements that juxtapose the weight of the concepts discussed within are powerful and unique among contemporary poems.

What I Can’t Say is an incredible poetry book that has made me fall in love with poetry all over again. The sad truth is is that I do not read poetry books as much as I would like to, but this is not my choice. The reason I have not read many poetry books recently is that the ones I have been finding seem to be generic and not original which is what I hate in any book, let alone a poetry book! If I read a poetry book, it has to be incredible and has to transfix me as well as charm me and make me feel a host of different emotions. That is why I am so happy to have discovered What I Can’t Say by Joan J. Bell because this poetry book is one of the most original, unique and beautifully crafted poetry books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. If you are a reader who adores poetry and getting lost in beautiful, moving and poignant poems that will move you, then What I Can’t Say is the poetry book for you and should not be missed!

What I Can’t Say is a collection of poems written by Joan J. Bell and each poem is ‘raw and emotionally gripping.’ The poems are emotive and will explore poignant themes, however, although they are brutally honest poems that can make a reader feel a host of different emotions, it is also not too oppressive that it can’t be read. Instead, Joan J. Bell writes her poems in a light and easy to read way that will keep readers captivated from start to finish, I know I was!

The poems laced throughout What I Can’t Say are exceptional as well as original and transfixing, and I know that they are because even though I have finished reading them all, I can’t stop thinking about them! That is when you know book lovers when you have found a sensational book; it is so exceptional that I found myself re-reading parts and getting lost in them even further.

Joan J. Bell  is a newly discovered poet of mine, but I wish I had found her work sooner because never before have I been so transfixed by poems. I have read a lot of poems in my time, especially since a young age but never have I ever been so provoked by one, emotionally and mentally. Joan J. Bell does this with her mesmerizing prose and well developed and structured poems. The poems honestly will keep readers turning the pages from beginning to end so do not miss out!

As What I Can’t Say is a sensational, unique, and beautiful poetry book that should not be missed, I, of course, have to award this stellar book five stars! So please, have a read of What I Can’t Say and get lost in the captivating words of Joan J. Bell and be compelled to read from the very beginning to the very end.

Thanks so much for the review Aimee! This book was something that took me a long time to grow comfortable enough to publish and I eventually chose to do so as a way of both cathartic realeased of emotions for myself and an insight on the thoughts of people with mental illness in the hopes of fostering understanding and compassion among all different people. It’s available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback, and is on the way to being purchasable in retail bookstores like Barnes and Noble but is not write there yet. Again, I’d like to thank anyone and… Read more »
