Virginie Bonfils-Bedos, Author Spotlight

Author Spotlight

Book lovers today I am featuring an incredible author whose work I have grown to love thanks to her sensational novel, Gatekeepers: The Fog Chronicles. Virginie Bonfils-Bedos is the author of Gatekeepers and wow is the novel exceptional! When I read Gatekeepers I raced through it thanks to its intriguing plot and phenomenal writing, I ended up awarding the book five stars thanks to the combination of brilliant literature and a noteworthy storyline as well as well-developed characters and so I hope you lovely readers read it! I am very excited to be writing a spotlight for Virginie today, she is a fascinating woman who has so kindly answered my questions but before we get to the short Q&A, here is an author bio courtesy of Virginie herself.

I am a French-born indie author and screenwriter. Growing up in France with a passion for reading, I have discovered my writer’s voice in English rather than French following my move to London (U.K), more than 15 years ago.

A word lover, I like writing books of different genres. My first serialized novel Gatekeepers, which launches The Fog Chronicles collection, is a speculative fiction and has received raving reviews from readers. The sequel, Horizons, is in the pipeline for 2018. Currently in the work is a novel based on a true story, as well as several screenplays for feature films and a TV series.

Now, how wonderful does Virginie sound?! Virginie is clearly a passionate writer, and I am excited for her future as an author because I already know great things are ahead for her and I very rarely write this about an author! Please find now my Q&A with Virginie, I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for joining us today Virginie at Red Headed Book Lover Blog! In your own words could you please tell us about your book and what inspired you to write the story.

Gatekeepers is the exciting adventure I longed to have. As it was unlikely to happen by natural causes, the substitute was to create it myself as an alternate reality – and not a magical world. Of course, the discovery of a parallel world and the Fog Gate is a fantasy (maybe…), but although improbable, everything else in the story had to be possible. And, like in our reality, events always unfold out of our control at a surprisingly fast pace, so the only way to stay afloat is to adapt and learn fast.

The main reason I started typing the idea floating in my head, though, was to bring some brightness in the everyday life of a few friends going through difficulties. They are the ones who pushed me to publish the novel, too! Some of them have inspired key characters of the story: I put my friends in a very unlikely situation, then observed where the story took them. They handled it all pretty well!

Gatekeepers truly is an exciting novel, and I thank you so much for writing it as well as sharing your inspiration! What would your advice be for aspiring writers?

Some days you may be super-productive, others less: Don’t beat yourself up! Find your best routine and give it your very best. Just don’t stop.

That is wonderful advice! Thank you so much. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

Don’t worry, you will finish it.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?

The connection with the characters, positive or negative.

I agree! Characters play an important role in any book and I love the development of yours! Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?

Horizons, the sequel of Gatekeepers, is due by the end of the year. We are in the last publishing phase, finalizing the book cover design. Soon, you will know what happens when the secret about Gatekeepers leaks out… And the consequences for both worlds – but I shall not reveal any more.

Book lovers I hope you enjoyed the Q&A with Virginie! Remember, if you ever have any questions of your own, please comment them below, and Virginie will hopefully see them and reply. I myself was very excited to learn that the sequel to Gatekeepers is due at the end of the year, that is why I have to implore you lovely readers to read Gatekeepers before the sequel is out, you will not regret it!
