Dr. Dylan Mathis has a great life. At 28, he is a full professor of Astronomy at Bridger Community College in Laramie, WY. He has a devoted girlfriend and loving friends and family. Unfortunately, a seizure disorder from his youth has suddenly returned and thrown him for a loop. Unknown to Dylan, his condition is not connected to a physical problem, but an ancient event of Biblical proportion. Even worse, an ancient evil has made its way to picturesque Laramie. And it’s looking for Dylan.
The Vessel is an intriguing, thrilling and exciting paranormal suspense novel that managed to captivate me and compel me to read from the very start. The Vessel is book two in the Small Town Heroes series which is written by the talented Robert Whitbey and let me tell you now book lovers that this book is sensational! When I started to read this novel, I was instantly captivated and hooked by the phenomenal literature and dramatic plot, and so I have to implore you lovely readers to read this brilliant tale so that you can get lost in a memorable story.
The Vessel is a multi-layered plot that follows Dr. Dylan Mathis. Dylan lives the what some would call a perfect life as everything seems to be going right for him. He is an esteemed professor of Astronomy at a prestigious college and he has a loving family and a devoted girlfriend…life could not get more perfect. Well, soon Dylan’s life changes dramatically and comes crashing down on him as a disorder from his childhood which causes Dylan to suffer seizures has reoccurred. What Dylan does not know is that an ancient event is behind Dylan’s seizures and what is worse, is that this ancient evil is coming for Dylan and this book lovers is the plot of this excellent story.
The story of The Vessel is one that captivated me from the description alone thanks to the biblical references and the mention of a small town. I love books which are set in small towns because they allow the reader to really get to know the town and the people in it without being bombarded with too much information and too much backdrop. Robert Whitbey, the incredible author of the equally incredible The Vessel, has managed to strike the perfect balance with his descriptive powers of the town that features in the book. Whitbey perfectly paints an image in the reader’s mind but at the same time he does not take up too much text in his novel… he is concise and descriptive and that is the perfect combination in my opinion.
Not only is Robert Whitbey phenomenal at creating a picturesque town for his readers, he is also incredible at captivating his reader from the start. As I began to read this novel I was shocked by how quickly I was engrossed as this very rarely happens to me but not with The Vessel. Instead, The Vessel opens with a strong opening which will perfectly pull the reader into the story at an alarming rate. As The Vessel is an addictive, creative and phenomenal story that will take readers on a memorable supernatural journey, I have no choice but to award this stellar read a dazzling five stars! So please, if you are a reader looking for a brilliant supernatural tale, then The Vessel is it!
