One plane crash.
One extraordinary faith.
One million lies.
Their networking flight to Salzburg left London with ten people. That number has changed.
Nina had thought she knew those she had travelled to Salzburg with. But as survival tears at them, putting pressure on them both physically and mentally, all that seems to remain is a mountain of lies.
Now, with nothing but snow and looming mountains surrounding them, they must band together in order to survive. But as fear and hunger escalates, long buried secrets begin to emerge. Those secrets shatter the fragile bond they had sought to build, leaving them unable to rely on those they can see, but on what they can’t…
A short while ago I read and reviewed an incredible book called Spiral, written by the talented and well-accomplished author D.U. Okonwko. Spiral was a novel that thrilled me from start to finish and it finished on a significant cliffhanger so I was left wanting more! That is why I had to read the second book in the series called Torn and wow, what a stellar novel Torn is! Torn is a thrilling, engrossing novel that took my breath away; this excellent book has delightfully entertained me from beginning to end, and I always knew it would thanks to how enjoyable I found Spiral. Torn is a thrilling, as well as a suspenseful book that takes the reader on a turbulent, harsh journey that will make readers think about their own lives and what they would do in the same situation as the characters in the story. As I read Torn I felt engrossed, entertained and enchanted until the very last page; the book is sensational as well as phenomenal and addictive… so much so that I found it unputdownable. I was impatient as I moved from one page to the next and that is all thanks to the astonishing author’s engrossing literature, riveting plot and let’s not forget extraordinary characters; all of these factors combined Torn the perfect read to escape into.
Torn picks up where Spiral finished but before I tell you more about Torn I think it is best that I let you lovely readers know more about Spiral and so here is an excerpt from my review of Spiral:
“The star of the novel is Nina Bishop, a young and successful lawyer. Book one in The Salzburg Saga is mostly about the events before and during and the immediate events after the crash, and so before the crash, the reader learns a lot about Nina and her life. Nina has had what some would say a challenging life because she has raised her three younger siblings all by herself, but this has not stopped her from succeeding in life. In fact, Nina is actually a successful lawyer who runs her own law firm with her two friends. One day Nina takes on a wealthy and notorious client – Parker Drayton – and Parker has organized a networking trip to Austria, and he wants Nina as well as her two law partners to accompany him and his two older but difficult children, Justin and Hugh.
Everything at first is running smoothly, but soon it turns disastrous when Hugh causes the plane to crash. The plane crashes but they survive but now they all find themselves in a deadly situation in the mountains of Austria. What follows next is a twisty, turny, unraveling of secrets that will reveal many shocking truths and this book lovers is the premise of the remarkable novel that is Spiral.”
Now, how fantastic does Spiral sound?! Torn will once again introduce the readers to the same scenario readers were left with in book one and in book two the stakes are even higher and relationships even more frayed. This is because now they are facing starvation as well as hypothermia and if they are not rescued soon then they will most likely die. Throughout Torn, the reader will learn more shocking secrets which in turn make the novel even more suspenseful and fascinating and so, if you are a reader who is looking to get lost in a fascinating tale that will shock but compel you then Torn is for you and should not be missed!
The story of Torn is a gripping, glorious, survival read that took my breath away on more than one occasion. The plot of the novel is captivating as well as surprising and this is thanks to the author and her brilliant writing; this novel is an all-consuming assault of excellence and it keeps you motivated to read until the very end. As I read Torn all I could think that the book was sensational and a unique piece of work that should be read by everybody thanks to its wonderfully written plot. I did not get bored once reading this novel; I always measure my likeness of a book on whether I find myself looking at the page number; if I do in fact do this I know that the novel is taking its toll… in other words, it is dragging and I want it to end but Torn was different than this and not like this at all as never once did I find myself referring to the page number.
D.U. Okonkwo has done an excellent job at captivating the reader from the very first page. Okonkwo immediately throws the reader in the midst of action and it makes for an exhilarating experience, she perfectly described every aspect in her novel, capturing the vividness, harshness but also the beauty of the scenery the reader reads about in Torn. Okonkwo’s descriptions of her characters all of the wonderous surrounding really did floor me; she really is a creative, vivid, imaginative thinker which is great to read.
Okonkwo’s writing is entertaining as well as thrilling; her words will make the reader race through the book, turning the pages desperately wanting to know what would happen to the characters we have grown to love and hate. As well as this she managed to keep the pace of her book moving along briskly all while injecting suspense and action at the perfect points and that is why I am going to have to give this incredible tale five stars!
