Finals are over, and twenty-year-old Claire Matthews can hardly wait to begin summer break until…she arrives home to an army of police swarming her parents’ front lawn. Detective Reynolds delivers the dreadful news that the man and woman inside the home are dead, and Claire is forced to identify their mummified bloodless bodies. Her world comes to a grinding halt when she learns that it is her mother and father who are the deceased, and her younger brother, JJ, is nowhere to be found. The predator accused…a vampire.
Claire is no stranger to vampires; in fact, these days’ vamps are a dime a dozen. One-hundred-thirty years ago a vow was made, combining the two worlds. A vampire’s survival no longer required a human sacrifice. Vampire Centers were created, offering human blood through transfusion; yet, why were her parents bled dry? Why now? What changed? Could a rogue vampire be responsible? Was it possible vampires, Nate and Parker, JJ’s best friends, suddenly hungered for human blood?
The Vow is a novel I was desperate to read ever since discovering it and caught my attention right away thanks to its description which alludes to vampires being out in the open among society which intrigued me. Now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what The Vow did to me. That is why I am already going to recommend The Vow to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but The Vow is a novel not to be missed!
The Vow for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. The Vow was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Laura Daleo who from the start hooked me with her unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a fantasy novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a fantasy story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! The Vow does have action-packed moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!
The Vow is a breathtaking novel that will introduce the reader to the star of the book Claire Matthews. Claire is twenty years old, and her finals are now over, and she is looking forward to her summer break; however, she will not get the summer she dreamed of. Instead, Claire’s world will be rocked when she discovers that her parents have been murdered in their home and her younger brother JJ is missing. Who is the suspect? A vampire.
Vampires now live among humans, and a vow was made, over 100 years ago that the two worlds would be combines and vampire centers would be created so that vampires no longer had to harm humans. However, there is a rogue vampire, and this book lovers is the premise of the thrilling The Vow!
The premise of The Vow is exceptional, original and unlike anything I have read before. I loved the many themes and elements explored throughout the book, and all themes are explored by Daleo wonderfully, and she does this by lacing these interesting themes throughout the text flawlessly and weaving them with the story. The result of this makes The Vow a highly addictive and fascinating read that is never once lackluster or predictable.
Laura Daleo is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp her reader’s attention from the first page. Daleo instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in fantasy novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust her reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly, but with The Vow, the reader will not encounter this issue because Daleo instantly develops her characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.
Laura Daleo is not only a brilliant writer for her ability to captivate the reader’s attention straight away, but she is also an excellent author for her ability to lace exceptional twists and turns throughout her story that genuinely had me shocked at points! The combination of Daleo’s shocking twists and her explanatory powers will immerse the reader in the story and make them be able to visualize every detail, no matter how small. This writing approach is one of my favorites because it makes the reader feel included in the story and make the reader feel as if they are in the same situation as the protagonists of the novel.
Overall The Vow is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars!
