The Plight of a Mother, Phidalia Toi

Grief & Hardship, Memoir & Biography, NonFiction

“The Plight of a Mother” is the true story of a mother who had to go through an agonising period of her life when her youngest daughter was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). The distressing experience during the course of treatment is unfolded in the pages of the book. The writer tries to convey to readers the message that faith in God does triumph in the end.

Memoirs narrated from the perspective of a parent have been my go to read of late; as a mother of four, I adore reading books from a perspective of a mother, especially a mother who has been through hardship because from that hardship comes information for other parents and that is really important in my opinion. Phidalia Toi, the author of The Plight of a Mother poignantly narrated her experience when her youngest daughter was diagnosed with bone cancer and throughout the book, she will take her readers along the experiences she had during this very difficult time.

The Plight of a Mother is an honest, moving, poignant memoir that will move and inspire its readers in more than one way. Phidalia Toi writes the Plight of a Mother and she poignantly describes her experiences after her daughter was diagnosed with cancer.

Phidalia is an admirable woman whose book I adore; one quality I admire most about Phidalia is her love for her family and God. Laced throughout the pages of The Plight of a Mother, Phidalia pours her heart and soul into her memoir which expresses her love and devotion to her family as well as God. Never before have I read a memoir full of so much heart, as I read The Plight of a Mother I could feel Phidalia’s love for her family shine of the page and this compelled me even more to turn the pages.

Phidalia Toi is not only an admirable woman but also a flawless writer who has wonderfully written her memoir in a compelling and heartfelt way. Phidalia’s beautiful words will ensure that readers are engrossed from the first page to the very last. In my opinion, Phidalia has wonderfully mastered the difficult skill to capture a readers attention from the first page and hold it throughout; I believe she has accomplished this thanks to her easy to read writing, which is full of moving moments and her effortless skill to make the reader feel as if she is speaking directly to you.

The journey the reader encounters at times is incredibly hard hitting and upsetting, but it is also very inspiring thanks to Phidalia’s grit and determination. The journey the reader is taken on really is an incredibly poignant one and gives the reader a first-person perspective on what it really is like to have a child who has cancer and what happens throughout all of the treatments. As well as this the reader will also learn the psychological effects Cancer has on you and your family and how it can affect you mentally and this is really important to know and learn about.

Overall The Plight of a Mother is an informative, well-written memoir with words that flow beautifully throughout, I have no choice but to award this stunning book a brilliant five stars.
