The Philistine Warrior, Karl Larew

Historical Fiction

This novel, set in ancient Palestine, is in large part a retelling of the Samson and Delilah legend. The story is seen through the eyes of a heroic young Philistine nobleman, Phicol of Askelon, who plays a crucial role in the endless wars of his time. Delilah is called “Delai” in this novel, the Philistine equivalent of the Hebrew name. She is an innocent teenager, beloved by her cousin Phicol, but caught up in the dynastic and military events of her peoples’ wars. Samson is a leader of Phicol and Delai’s worst enemies.

Again I thank you for your kind words. And again, I’m happy to see that you have not “given away” anything essential to my plot! I’m wondering whether readers should read my historical note at the end first, so as to see what I’m up to; but perhaps it works just as well to be read last. I particularly like my last line about Frazer’s remark. I was also pleased to have your opinion (about the book as a whole); coming from an avid fan of historical fiction (i.e., you); that means a lot to me. Thanks again. Karl
