25 years ago, Sarah Madden lost her husband to Mt. Everest. Ever since, she vowed to never speak its name again.
The mountain that claimed her husband is now in her son’s blood, and will not let go. But this time, she will not remain at home while her son climbs the killer peak. If the mountain is going to take him, it will have to do it staring her in the face.
Frank Kincaid’s reputation as the finest Everest expedition guide has been the means for supporting his treasured charity work in Khum Jung. With uncompromising methods, he has never lost a client on the mountain. But this group of expedition clients comes with a reminder of the past, and suddenly he is confronted with the memory of the disaster that took the life of his friend, Sherpa Pasang.
As history threatens to repeat itself, they’re all put to the ultimate test.
Wow, The Lion of Khum Jung … where do I begin? Why don’t I start my review by writing that The Lion of Khum Jung is a compelling and moving novel that is not only worthy of being read by all readers but also a novel that needs to be a movie. When I read the description of The Lion of Khum Jung I was hooked, after all, I love adventure novels and love even more when they have heart, so I was hooked and ready to go. However, when I started to read The Lion of Khum Jung, I was shocked by just how good the literature and the story was and so I raced through this novel desperate to find out what would happen to the story I had grown to love. Now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what The Lion of Khum Jung did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read it! That is when you know book lovers that you have come across an incredible book when you are thinking of it when you have a million things to do. That is why I am already going to recommend The Lion of Khum Jung to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but The Lion of Khum Jung is a novel not to be missed.
The Lion of Khum Jung is a poignant and moving story that will introduce the reader to the female protagonist of the novel, Sarah Madden, a mother, and a widow. Twenty-five years ago Sarah lost her husband on his quest to conquer Everest and in the present day Sarah’s son, Greg, has the same ambition. Sarah, of course, does not want her son to go and can’t face losing him like she did her husband and that is why Sarah decides to accompany Greg on his mission to climb Everest. The story that follows is a moving, incredibly emotional one but it is also an inspiring story full of a wealth of heart and love and so if you are interested in adventure stories that you won’t be able to forget, then The Lion of Khum Jung is for you!
The Lion of Khum Jung for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. The Lion of Khum Jung was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Ronald Bagliere who hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find an adventure fiction novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a story of this kind that does not rely on ridiculous action sequences! The Lion of Khum Jung does have many eventful moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!
Ronald Bagliere is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Bagliere instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with Bagliere, the reader will not encounter this issue because Bagliere instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.
Overall The Lion of Khum Jung is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so, I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars! If you are a reader who loves adventure novels with heart then I implore you to read The Lion of Khum Jung; it is a fast-paced adventure that should not be missed so have a read of the preview below and get reading!
