The First Gospel, Darryl Nyznyk

Action & Adventure, Christian Fiction, Literature & Fiction, Mystery & Suspense, Thriller & Psychological Thriller

Edessa, Turkey 943 A.D.: Eighty thousand Byzantine knights lay siege to the Muslim citadel. Prepared to raze the city, the Byzantine commander offers to spare it if the Muslim emir will hand over a fourteen-foot-long linen cloth. The stunned emir readily delivers the cloth that bears the shocking full-body image of a crucified man.

Arizona almost 1100 years later: Matt Carter, an under-employed law school graduate, discovers the brutally murdered body of his old professor, Samuel Rosen. When Matt returns home, he finds a letter posted by Rosen before his murder. Rosen begs Matt to protect an ancient parchment owned by his family for generations. Unknown to Matt, the parchment holds the key to the two-thousand-year-old mystery of the Cloth of Edessa. Now Matt becomes the unwitting prey of those who will stop at nothing to keep his parchment’s truth hidden.

The First Gospel can only be described as a fast-paced mystery that should not be missed. The First Gospel has now become one of my favorite books of the year, and throughout my review, I will explain why I think this. The First Gospel shocked me from start to finish with its incredible plot, fast-paced narrative and extraordinary characters and this combined with Darryl Nyznyk’s dramatic literature make The First Gospel an astonishing read that should not be missed or forgotten. The journey the reader is taken on is shocking and will captivate its readers with its razor-sharp prose and dramatic plot development. The plot of the book is breathtaking, and I guarantee that many readers will feel breathless when reading it!

The First Gospel will introduce readers to the protagonist of the novel Matt Carter, a law school graduate who will soon find himself wrapped up in a centuries-old archaeological mystery. This expansive and dangerous journey begins when Matt discovers the ‘brually murdered body of his old professor, Samuel Rosen.’ The discovery of his body leads him on a mission to protect an ancient parchment that has been owned by the Rosen family for generations. What Matt does not know at this point is that the parchment is more significant than first thought as it holds the mystery of the Cloth of Edessa. What follows is a thrilling and captivating novel journey that every reader should experience.

The story of The First Gospel is reminiscent of The DaVinci Code and the other Robert Langdon books/movies however they are entirely different with only slight similarities. What is similar however is the fast-paced chase, the exceptional writing, and the intriguing historical context. Those are what The First Gospel and the Robert Langdon books have in common book lovers. The story of The First Gospel is a unique one because of its unusual but thrilling premise, and I admit that I am obsessed with the premise. I love how the reader is taken on an exciting, unpredictable story, the story is just that because from start to finish you will be taken on a wild ride while also experiencing many twists and turns that will shock, delight and enthrall you!

Darryl Nyznyk is the author of The First Gospel and wow what a phenomenal job he has done! Mysteries, in general, can take a while to get going because there is usually a very long backstory that can drag… however! That is not the case with The First Gospel; instead, the reader is immediately thrust into the thick of the story and amongst the unfolding drama. The reader will feel as if their breath has been knocked out of them, that is how fast-paced the plot is and how arresting the story is. As I read The First Gospel I could not turn the pages fast enough, I did so with haste, and this is thanks to the author’s fantastic literature that captivated me from the start.

Overall The First Gospel is a splendid novel that is guaranteed to entertain readers from beginning to end and so, I have no choice but to award the story five stars! If you are a reader looking to get lost in a thrilling book, then do not miss out! Be sure to have a read of the book preview below book lovers, you will not regret it!

I’m humbled by your wonderful review, Aimee. When a writer is in the midst of the painstaking process of developing characters and a story he/she hopes will resonate with readers, positive critical review of the work is only a dream. Thank you so much for reading, and, even more important, enjoying THE FIRST GOSPEL. It was a work of passion for me. It came out of my years long research of the Shroud of Turin, the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, and a desire to convey in the context of a thriller, the truth about the image of Christ that… Read more »
