The Final Six Days, Joe Agster

Action & Adventure, Dystopian & Post Apocalyptic, Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Science Fiction & Space Opera, Time Travel Fiction

No memory. No identity. Six days to live.

A man wakes up in the desert outside of Las Vegas on December 26th, sometime in the future, where everything around him feels strange and foreign. He soon learns that a civilization-busting asteroid is about to crash into Las Vegas in six days. After wandering aimlessly in the dystopian final days with Cassie, a young attractive woman who has a fetish for helping lost souls, they spend their final moments together before being incinerated by the crashing fireball. But instead of dying, he awakes in the same location as before, discovering that he is living the same six days over and over. With the help of a mysterious former NASA scientist, he formulates a plan to save himself and Cassie by taking shelter in one of the government’s top secret underground survival installations. But along the way, he uncovers clues that suggest not all is what it seems, and through introspection, he wonders if he is meant for a greater purpose.

Wow, The Final Six Days… where do I begin? Why don’t I start my review by writing that The Final Six Days is a thrilling novel that is not only worthy of being read by all readers but also a novel that needs to be a movie. When I read the description of The Final Six Days I was hooked, after all, I love dystopian novels and love even more when they have a twist, so I was hooked and ready to go. However, when I started to read The Final Six Days, I was shocked by just how good the literature and the story was and so I raced through this novel desperate to find out what would happen to the protagonists I had grown to love. Every now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what The Final Six Days did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read it! That is when you know book lovers that you have come across an incredible book when you are thinking of it when you have a million things to do. That is why I am already going to recommend The Final Six Days to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but The Final Six Days is a novel not to be missed.

The Final Six Days is the first book in the Time Crossers series written by Joe Agster and wow what a debut! The Final Six Days is a compelling dystopian mystery that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the story. The man, however, has no memory as well as no identity and this is because he wakes up in the desert outside of Las Vegas and he has no recollection of how he got there or who he is. The man will soon cross the desert, and when he does, he learns of an asteroid that is about to crash into Las Vegas in six days. What happens in six days? The asteroid comes, and everything indeed is destroyed, but the man is surprised when he wakes up in the same location six days before, strange right? That leads the man on a path of discovery and with the help of a former NASA scientist and a woman he has fallen for, they embark on a mission on how they can survive and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible novel that is The Final Six Days.

The Final Six Days for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. The Final Six Days was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, Joe Agster who hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a dystopian novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a dystopian story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! The Final Six Days does have some action-packed moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!

Joe Agster is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Agster instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in dystopian novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with Agster, the reader will not encounter this issue because Agster instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

Overall The Final Six Days is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so, I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars!
