The Devil’s Eye, Matthew S. Cox & J.R. Rain

Detective & Private Investigator, Fantasy, Horror & Occult, Literature & Fiction, Supernatural & Paranormal, Thriller & Psychological Thriller

Detective Madeline Wimsey tends to stand out with her wild red hair, pentacle amulets, and offbeat methods, but she has a tool few other cops use―magic.

Maddy knows the universe wants to balance itself out, so she isn’t above tossing around a spell or two whenever a killer’s karma needs a little nudge in the right direction. As a member of a practicing coven, she’s used to strange looks, hushed whispers, and rolled eyes, but couldn’t care less what people think of her.

After a man turns up dead in a grisly satanic rite, her fellow detectives are quick to crack jokes. Since they can’t tell a pentacle from a pentagram, Maddy’s happy to get the case. She suspects the ritual to be the work of amateurs, a theory that pans out when they track down the pack of clueless high school students who made the shrine in the woods. Convinced all is not as it appears to be, Maddy asks the Goddess for a push in the right direction and learns a disturbing truth:

The Devil’s Eye is watching her.

The Devil’s Eye is a dramatic, thrilling and exciting novel that will keep readers entertained, captivated and engrossed from the very first page. Supernatural stories are currently my go to read, especially when red-haired witches are featured! So when I read the description of The Devil’s Eye, I knew that I had to read the book as well as review it so that all you lovely readers could learn of it. Never before have I been so captivated by a supernatural detective story and this is thanks to the exceptional authors Matthew S. Cox and J.R. Rain and their talented literature and so, if you are a reader who loves getting lost in supernatural detective mysteries then The Devil’s Eye is for you!

The Devil’s Eye is an incredible supernatural read that follows the protagonist of the novel, Madeline Wimsey who is a detective but also a witch! Yes book lovers, a detective witch, what more can us readers want?! Madeline, however, is no secret witch, she is out in the open and her fellow detectives like to jokingly mess with her about her powers and her ‘witcheness.’ One day on what seemed like a typical day, a body is discovered; a man has been murdered in what appears to be a satanical ritual, so Madeline is quick to take the case, after all, she is the only one who knows the difference between a pentacle and a pentagram! The reader will follow Madeline on her investigation, and along the way, many terrifying truths will be exposed, and this book lovers is the premise of the novel.

The story of  The Devil’s Eye is excellent and incredibly well-developed thanks to the two exceptional authors, Matthew S. Cox and J.R. Rain. Both authors from the beginning manage to develop the world with immaculate detail; every event, character, and setting is well thought out and planned, and I was impressed by the author’s flawless abilities to do this. As I read The Devil’s Eye, I immediately was drawn into the book and felt captivated by the author’s spellbinding literature. Cox and Rain’s writing is detailed in the most immaculate of ways, the text is detailed but not too dense, it is beautifully written so that the reader will be able to immerse themselves in the story from beginning to end without difficulty which in turn keeps them entertained!

Not only are the authors talented for their descriptive powers, but they are also phenomenal writers thanks to the characterization of the protagonist of the novel Madeline Wimsey. Madeline is a character every reader will be able to root for, her grit and determination to not give up and to fight her way to solve the case is inspiring and will have many readers rooting and even caring for her. Cox and Rain have essentially written a character study of Madeline, and I adore this approach in literature because it makes the story even more immersive and entertaining for a reader. Being able to accompany Madeline on her investigation was incredible, it was remarkable to witness her magical powers and even more brilliant to observe how she uses them to help her investigation!

Overall The Devil’s Eye is a spectacular, compelling and action-packed supernatural adventure that will entertain and delight readers for hours on end and so, I, of course, have to review this incredible book five stars! So please if you love supernatural stories that follow a strong protagonist while being taken on a memorable journey, then The Devil’s Eye is for you!
