RED HEADED BOOK LOVER

The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder, Emmanuella Hristova

Coming of Age, Grief & Hardship, Literature & Fiction

I hesitate when you kiss me because I
am afraid you will taste the disaster
brewing underneath my skin.

Emmanuella’s debut poetry collection documents the birth and death of a relationship, and the death of her sister. Each poem is an emotional time-stamp that plunges the reader into the depths of the author’s feelings as they burgeon and wane. The book reads like a diary and chronicles the boundaries of the things that we all feel: love, heartache, and pain that gives way to hope.

The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder is a poetry book I was desperate to read ever since discovering it. I love poetry but only if the poems that are written are poignant, moving and will provoke my thoughts about life, other people and myself and The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder holds many poems that do just this. I love poetry, but sadly these days poems do not read as nicely as some classics, but I found with The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder that they did because the words flowed beautifully from start to finish and transfixed me and compelled me from beginning to end and so I am already going to recommend this gem of a book! However, if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more about this gem.

The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder is a collection of poems written by Emmanuella Hristova and in her book she explores pivotal moments in her life, including the death of her sister and the ‘birth and death of a relationship.’ The poems laced throughout the book are moving as well as poignant and will provoke readers thoughts. The poems are mostly short and quick poems but just because they are short does not mean they have little meaning and poignancy, in fact, they are incredibly profound and will definitely stay in readers memories for a long time, and that is just one quality I love about the incredible The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder.

There are many poems in The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder which I loved however it is hard to write which one because they are all so incredible. The book is around 50 pages long so the reader will get to read a host of different poems and I admit book lovers that they really do pack a punch and although a lot of them are emotional, they should still be read because it would be near impossible for somebody to not fall in love with the poems written in The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder.

The poems laced throughout The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder are so brilliant and unique that I have not been able to stop thinking about them. As soon as I would finish one I would end up re-reading it because I wanted to immerse myself in it again and understanding the true meaning. I love immersing myself in a poem and reading it from different perspectives and the wonderful author Emmanuella Hristova challenges her readers to do this.

Emmanuella Hristova is a newly discovered poet of mine, but I wish I had discovered her work sooner because never before have I been so transfixed by poems. I have read a lot of poems in my time, especially since a young age but never have I ever been so provoked by the ones in The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder, emotionally and mentally. Emmanuella does this with her mesmerizing prose and well developed and structured poems. The poems truly will keep readers turning the pages from beginning to end.

Overall The Day My Kisses Tasted Like Disorder is a sensational, unique, and beautiful poetry book that should not be missed, I, of course, have to award this stellar book five stars!
