Stella Atrium, Author Spotlight

Author Spotlight

Dr. Meenins has recurring dreams that are his memory turning. He resists facing his guilty acts from eight centuries ago. Linda Deemer of his race of Longists is sent to help him step through painful memories of lost companions.

Travel companions help Dr. Meenins confront his dreams while haunted by wispy memories of faraway places and alien races. The reader is treated to his past adventures on other worlds where Christopher Meenins escapes assassins of a blood feud and gathers followers to find the new homeworld.

A quest novel that, in broader terms, is a cautionary tale with many tongue-in-cheek references to true human nature and injustices of contemporary society. Similar to Cloud Atlas or Sense 8.

Could you please tell readers about your book and what inspired you to write this book?

SEVEN BEYOND is a fantasy journey story where a group of travelers commit to helping Dr. Meenins (800-years-old) to full memory of the many guilty acts of his past. When he accepts his role that impacted race history, Christopher Meenins can lead his race to a new homeland.

The reader is treated to his past adventures on other worlds where Christopher Meenins escapes assassins of a blood feud and gathers followers who bolster his faulty memory. Linda Deemer is a fellow Longist sent to help Chris step through his memories of lost companions.

In full memory, Dr. Meenins becomes the founder of the new colony, inviting Longists to join commerce on Earth and integrate with our societies.

I was first attracted to the idea of writing about people with long life and how a century can be devoted to a specific study of music or warfare without loss. Also women can enter business without feeling the pressure to give birth to all her children within a single decade. As my father aged, I wondered how very old people cope with loss of friends, loss of a homeland, or a faulty memory without companions to reinforce the old heroic tales. The storyline grew from there.

What would your advice be for aspiring writers?

I teach creative writing at an online university. What I notice most often among writing students is a certain impatience with the story. A writer must realize that she sacrifices her life to this discipline. Talent cannot be taught, but writing style is a function of patience with developing a sequence of active scenes. There is no race to publication. Many would-be writers don’t make it past that first hurtle of time-sacrifice to developing and polishing the story.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?

The plot. Books succeed of fail on what happens next. Surprise, jeopardy, spectacle, an unrelenting bad guy – these help to drive the plot. For fantasy, a healthy sprinkling of magic doesn’t hurt.

Do you read much and, if so, who are your favorite authors?

I used to read all the time. Now I read student revised stories.  LOL . Favorite writers include Margaret Atwood, Robin Hobb, Lillian Hellman, Eudora Welty. Once I discovered women writers, or writers who embrace a woman’s view of the world, I never went back. And may I recommend the Danish movie Babette’s Feast from a short story by Isak Dinesen who also wrote Out of Africa?

Lastly, when can we readers expect to read more wonderful books from you?

Stella Atrium is the writer of a fantasy planet story titled The Dolvia Saga. The first three novels in the series are available on and other outlets, with three more installments in the works for publication before 2020.
