When I killed Kanontsistonties, the Flying Head, and vanquished the demon back to the netherworld, I hoped my battle would be over. Little did I know, it was just beginning. Kise, The Creator, told me that when the gates to the Netherworld were opened many demons fled its confines. When I asked how I could find them, I was given one directive: never go looking for evil, it will come looking for you. So for the past eight months, things have been pretty quiet around the reservation. But that all ended when I saw Bobby’s eyes flicker from brown and round to amber and oval. That’s when I knew, it wouldn’t be long before the fight would come to me.
While I have been trying to figure out how to control my power of fire, Ayas, the Wandering Spirit, and I will have to gather an army of both friend and foe and fight the demons who have come out of hiding in a place called the Valley of Blood. This will be no ordinary battle, for the winner will control the Spirit Mount.
I need to hurry and figure out who I can trust and who I can’t because each minute the Misty Woods grow larger and now they have encroached on the Spirit World.
Come and fight beside us and pour your spirit in with ours as we take to the battlefield. Help me to fulfill my destiny and become The Kiche, the Sky Spirit Goddess.
A short while ago I read and reviewed a marvelous book called Evil Awakened which is written by the equally remarkable author, J.M. LeDuc. The story is a bewitching one full of breathtaking events and beings that will have the readers mind full of wonder. The story was so radiant that upon finishing it, I immediately started reading the sequel, Spirits Collide. I should mention at this point in my review that although Spirits Collide is book two in the series, it could be read as a stand-alone but if you are a reader who, like me, loves to have the full story and know the ins and outs than do read Evil Awakened before because the first book perfectly sets up the landscape for readers to get lost in.
Now as you know book lovers, I do not post spoilers, and as this is book two in the series I have to refrain from discussing the plot, however, I will give you a hint by sharing more about the first book Evil Awakened! So I have attached a snippet of my review that will introduce you to this wonderful series.
“Evil Awakened is a phenomenal novel that will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the story, Pamoon. Pamoon lives on a Cree reservation, and she lives on the reservation because when she was just a baby, her mother left her on the steps of the medical center on the reservation. Growing up Pamoon was told stories as well as legends of demons and heroes and when she was young, she thought they were just myths, however now she knows that they were in fact very real. One night Pamoon was with her friends, and when they recited a ritual they had no understanding about, the disappeared and this shock disappearance has revealed shocking truths about who Pamoon indeed is. The reader will follow Pamoon as she discovers who she is and her destiny to save all the First Peoples and this book lovers is the premise of the incredible Evil Awakened.”
Now, how excellent does Evil Awakened sound?! Spirits Collide is a continuation of the story in Evil Awakened and will introduce the reader to the protagonist as she continues her journey and wow, what a thrilling ride it was!
The story laced throughout Spirits Collide is pure fantasy and will send fantasy fans wild because the fantasy laced throughout the book is mesmerizing. The journey the reader encounters in Spirits Collide is just as brilliant, If not more brilliant than the journey in book one Evil Awakened and I will explain why. I loved the story in Evil Awakened, so much so that I awarded it five stars! But Evil Awakened is the first book in the series so of course, it features heavily on plot and world development which I must add was dazzling! My point is that in Spirits Collide the world is already established by the incredible author J.M. LeDuc, so now LeDuc has free reign, he can expand on the book even more and go crazy with plot ideas, characters and so much more and that is why I feel that I loved Spirits Collide just that bit more because the world is established and the journey thrilling!
J.M. LeDuc is seriously an insanely good fantasy writer because he knows what to write to entertain and keep his readers thrilled until the very end. LeDuc has many strong writing abilities, but his core talent has to be that of world development. The development of the story in Spirits Collide is breathtaking because the world the reader encounters in the first book is expanded on even more. I admit I was shocked by this because I did not believe it could be because the world was so flawlessly and immaculately developed in book one but LeDuc surprised me and expanded on the story even more, and that deserves a round of applause.
As Spirits Collide is a fascinating, mesmerizing and riveting story that should not be missed, I, of course, have to award the stellar read a magical five stars! Be sure to have a read of the preview below and also keep an eye out for my review for another book by J.M. LeDuc!
