They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—if that’s the case, I better be badass by the time this is over.

After two years at a dead-end job, Rebecca Peterson finally walks away from everything she knows to follow her dreams in Ireland. Instead of dreams, the dreary streets of Belfast rekindle her terrifying nightmares, and this time they aren’t confined to her imagination. Twisted and vicious, Faeries are being unleashed on Earth to prey upon humans, who are unaware of the vile creatures walking among them. Becca must stay alive long enough to learn why she can see what others can’t, and even more importantly, discover how to keep the Fae from destroying life on Earth.

Delving into the underbelly of the city, Becca discovers that she is not entirely alone in her abilities; however, centuries of secrecy makes gathering information a challenge. When Becca crosses paths with two mysterious strangers, her life is only complicated further. The gorgeous but brooding Lochlan demands complete honesty but refuses to provide any answers of his own. On the other hand, Ronan is enigmatic and charming, and with his sights set on making Becca his, he offers more help than most. But Becca quickly learns that trusting others is difficult when you have secrets of your own. Sometimes, the enemy is within….

Shadow Play is a dramatic, thrilling and exciting novel that will keep readers entertained, captivated and engrossed from the very first page. Fantasy novels are currently my go to read so when I read the description of Shadow Play I knew that I had to read it as well as review it so that all you lovely readers could read about it. Never before have I been so captivated by a dark fantasy story and this is thanks to the exceptional author Jill Ramsower who managed to captivate me effortlessly with her dark fantasy tale that is unique and unlike anything I have read before.

Shadow Play is an incredible novel, one that I was very excited to read when I read in the description that Faeries are featured in the story. I adore mythology and I love Faeries and I admit, I have read many of this nature but Shadow Play is different because the Faeries featured in Shadow Play are not good but instead evil. When I read this I thought “wait a minute, evil Faeries!” and at that point, I knew I had to read the book and read it I did. The reader in Shadow Play will be introduced to many characters however the protagonist of the story is Rebecca ‘Becca’ Peterson. Becca has been working in a ‘dead-end’ job for two years and she has finally had enough, Becca one day decides that she wants to move to Belfast in Ireland to follow her dreams and she does but when she arrives strange occurrences start to happen… terrifying ones. Becca, while in Ireland learns about Faeries but not the kind we know about, these Faeries are far different from the adorable Tinkerbell we know and love but instead they are evil creatures who have been unleashed on Earth to ‘prey upon humans’.

Becca seems to be the only one who can see the Faeries, why is this? This one question will take Becca on an adventure packed and dangerous journey in which she will learn more about herself and her abilities, find others with the same type of abilities and learn more about the Faeries and what she can do to stop them from destroying life on Earth and this book lovers is the premise of the sensational Shadow Play.

The story of Shadow Play is excellent and incredibly well-developed thanks to Jill Ramsower, the author of the book. Ramsower manages to develop her world with immaculate detail; every event, character, and setting is well thought out and planned and I was impressed by Ramsower’s flawless ability to do this. As I read Shadow Play I immediately was drawn into the book and felt captivated by Ramsowers literature and this is for many reasons. The main reason is is that Ramsowers literature is detailed in the most immaculate of ways, the text is detailed but not heavy, it is beautifully written so that the reader will be able to immerse themselves in the story from beginning to end without difficulty.

Not only is Ramsower a talented author for her descriptive powers, she is also a phenomenal writer thanks to her characterization of the protagonist of the novel Becca. Becca is a character every reader will be able to root for, her grit and determination to not give up and to fight her way to survival is inspiring. Ramsower has essentially written a character study of Becca and I adore this approach in literature because it makes the story even more immersive and entertaining for a reader. Being able to accompany Becca on her journey was incredible, it was wonderful to witness her magical awakening and discovery of her powers and even more brilliant to witness how she finds her way in a fantasy world that is foreign to her. Because Ramsower captivates her readers from the start, the reader will feel as if they are in the same situation as Becca, they too will be finding their way through the tumultuous landscape and feel the same emotions of fear, excitement and strange new abilities just as Ramsower does. Shadow Play is a truly immersive experience and so if you adore to read novels that you can be apart of then this story is for you!

As Shadow Play is a sensational, compelling and action-packed fantasy adventure that will entertain and delight readers for hours on end, I of course have to review this incredible book five stars! So please if you love fantasy stories that follow a strong protagonist while being taken on a memorable journey then Shadow Play is for you!
