They live a healthy lifestyle, eat right, exercise… now, suddenly, his family is sick. But why isn’t he? And how is there already a drug available for this new disease? Jack will stop at nothing to get answers and to save his family.
With the help of some surprising and unexpected friends, he uncovers a conspiracy that is bigger than anything he could have imagined. But is it more than he can handle?
Filled with action, drama, and suspense, Running Still is a David vs. Goliath type story that spotlights the frightening power of Big Pharma and what can happen when billions of dollars are at stake.
Medical thrillers make for the most thrilling, exciting reads; however, I admit that I have struggled to find great books from this genre. The ones I have discovered are usually generic, unoriginal and frankly a little tiresome. However, Running Still is a medical thriller that is exceptional! As I begin to write my review for Running Still all I can think about is how badly I want to reread it which is a feeling I do not feel often. I have only ever felt this with Gone Girl and Before I Go To Sleep so the fact that I mention this shows you lovely readers that Running Still indeed is an exceptional thriller which will one day dominate the medical thriller genre.
Running Still follows the protagonist of the novel, Jack Turner as he and his family move away from New York City to the country for a new start in life… one full of less stress, and relaxation. Their arrival to the country is idyllic however soon an unusual event happens; Jack’s wife Amy and his two children are diagnosed with a new form of cancer, one that has not been heard of before. Upon any terrible diagnosis, there is a feeling of disbelief, and Jack most certainly feels this as his family are healthy so why them? Jack’s suspicions are further fuelled when treatment is already available for the new form of cancer. What happens next is a fast-paced, action-packed plot to discover what the new disease is, why there is already a treatment and how they can stop it from spreading. The reader will be taken on a adrenaline packed journey as Jack must find these answers while a deadly conspiracy is unraveling all while he tries to save his family and this book lovers is the premise of Running Still.
The story of Running Still is one that thrilled me from the very beginning, but the turning point for me was when the diagnosis was made. At this point in this novel I was gripped and left wanting more, I had so many questions racing through my mind and so I started to devour Running Still, turning the pages at a frantic pace for answers and the discoveries I found were shocking! The fact that this book has a plot that is unraveling continuously is genius as it manages to keep you hooked with the pent-up suspense, tension and the glorious twists and turns weaved throughout it and this is all courtesy of the incredible author, Steven Sheiner.
Steven Sheiner is an author I have newly discovered but I am so gutted that it has taken me so many years to discover his work! Steven’s work is utterly brilliant and his writing is intricate as well as detailed. The sheer amount of talent in Sheiner’s words is enough to make even the best of author’s jealous because he has a real talent for prose as well as hooking his readers with his descriptions. What I loved about this novel was the fact that Sheiner weaved medical terminologies throughout this. I can understand why some readers might not like this. However, I believe it added depth to the story, besides, it was educational too! I found myself learning while learning and those make for the best reads in my opinion.
Running Still truly is a phenomenal, engrossing read and so I have no choice but to award this book Five Stars!
