In Race You, Travis and his brother race each other everywhere. That changes when Travis breaks his leg, but then he discovers there is a bright side to having crutches.
In The Pretender, Sam loves to pretend. Sometimes he pretends to be a knight. Sometimes he pretends to be a samurai. And sometimes he pretends to be a ninja. His older sister thinks he’s too old for pretending. But then the school play begins.
In Fitness Fanatics, Zack is the fastest runner in his grade until Ben joins his class. Zack realizes that Ben might beat him in the cross-country. Ben wants to be friends, while Zack wants to win. What will Zack do?
The best experiences are often the unexpected ones.
Race You: and Other Stories for Young Readers has to be one of the most adorable, funny, and inspiring collections of short stories for children that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Race You is one of many books written by the superb author Sally Gould and I have to admit that Race You, along with her other book The Venetian Job is one of my favorite reads of her and one of my children’s favorite reads. All of Gould’s work has something special and unique about them and Race You has this too, it is a special quality that is hard to explain but what is not hard to explain is that this book will evoke pure joy in young readers and so I have to recommend that all young readers read this as it is simply sensational!
Race You is a collection of three stories which are all original and different from the last although there is a recurring theme that it follows young boys! The book hosts three stories titled, Race You, The Pretender and Fitness Fanatics which are all fantastic and could easily be stories that could be adapted into novella’s thanks to the unique premises of them and the wealth of detail thanks to Sally Gould.
Race You follows Travis and his brother Joel who love to race each other in every aspect of their lives. They love to compete with each other over the most mundane tasks such as brushing their teeth and eating their cereal, they compete who can do these tasks the fastest but they also physically race each other in and outside of the family home. One day Travis breaks his leg but this will not stop him racing his brother!
The Pretender follows Sam, an imaginative young boy who likes to pretend that he is a warrior. Sam likes to act out the thoughts that swirl in his imagination which sees him battling teddy bears and causing havoc in his home and outside of his home with his friends.
In Fitness Fanatics, the reader will follow Zack who is a gifted runner who is determined to beat his enemy Ben who is proving to be better than Zack… much to Zack’s displeasure! The young reader will have the pleasure of following Travis, Sam, and Zack through their individual stories and the result is an entertaining read that will inspire and entertain young minds.
Race You is the perfect collection of stories which are expertly written as well as wonderfully well developed. I found Race You to be the perfect rad for my children as I could read parts of the story with them throughout the day which would end much quicker than a full-length novel which is always great considering my children’s interest in a story can waiver quite easily!
As Sally Gould has written another superb because of children’s literature I have no choice but to award her brilliant book five stars! So please, parents and grandparents and so on, get your children to read this book as it is wonderful! Besides, it is free on Amazon so what is there not to love?!
