Retired biker, Marshal Bailey, was looking for redemption from a self-ruined past. After serving a prison sentence, he found his calling as a children’s entertainer. As a birthday clown, he enjoyed moderate success and was slowly piecing his life together, until a zombie outbreak struck the city.
After getting bit by a girl at a coffee shop, and disfigured in a horrible motorcycle accident, he awakes to discover that not only is he dead, he has somehow retained the ability to think. A doctor informs him that he may hold the antidote for the undead epidemic. While trying to escape the city being contained by a mysterious militant force, he rescues a girl that reminds him of his long-deceased daughter.
Joining ranks with a loose-knit group of survivors from conflicting social and ideological backgrounds — including a psychic, a conspiracy theorist, and a few prostitutes— he must find a way out of the city; if not for the sake of the girl in his custody, to provide a cure for a world gone awry. At the same time, he finds that his conscious mind is deteriorating as the virus slowly transforms him into a flesh-craving cannibal. Will he make it out before he turns?
Party Apocalypse is a novel I was desperate to read ever since discovering it and caught my attention right away thanks to its description which alludes to a zombie outbreak and a possible cure. Now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what Party Apocalypse did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read it! That is when you know book lovers that you have come across an incredible book when you are thinking of it when you have a million things to do. That is why I am already going to recommend Party Apocalypse to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but Party Apocalypse is a novel not to be missed.
Party Apocalypse for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. Party Apocalypse was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author, D.M. Draper who from the start hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a dystopian novel that is unique, and it is even more challenging to discover a dystopian story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences!
Party Apocalypse is a dramatic novel that will introduce the reader to the protagonist, Marshal Bailey, a ‘retired biker’ who is looking for redemption after serving time in prison. Marshal is now a birthday clown, entertaining children at parties however his life dramatically changes when a Zombie outbreak in the city occurs. Marshal is attacked and changed into a Zombie, however, unlike the other Zombies, he has retained his memory and ‘ability to think’ which leads many people to believe that he is the cure to end the horrific outbreak. What follows is a sensational novel that will captivate readers from start to finish so do not miss out book lovers!
The premise of Party Apocalypse is exceptional, original and unlike anything I have read before. I loved the many themes and elements explored throughout the book, and all themes are explored by Draper wonderfully, and he does this by lacing these interesting themes throughout the text flawlessly and weaving them with the story. The result of this makes Party Apocalypse a highly addictive and fascinating read that is never once lackluster or predictable. Draper really has accomplished the near impossible, Draper has managed to write an entertaining, bewitching and flawless story that will perfectly unfold in readers minds like a movie and now that I think about it, why is this book not a movie already!
D.M. Draper is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. Draper instead of writing long, drawn-out builds up which are commonly found in dystopian novels, decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I personally love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with Party Apocalypse, the reader will not encounter this issue because Draper instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.
Overall Party Apocalypse is a thrilling, compelling and thought-provoking novel that will easily entertain readers for many days and nights and so I, of course, have to award this stellar gem of a book five stars!
