Olympia, Kris Kramer

Action & Adventure, Dystopian & Post Apocalyptic, Fantasy, Literature & Fiction, Myth's & Legends

In the late 21st century, economic and religious upheavals led to widespread unrest, and then to a devastating world war. As cities began to disappear from the map, salvation came from the most unlikely of sources – the gods of Olympus, Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Ares, all recently returned to earth to save humanity from itself. Stunned nations quickly became ardent supporters, following the Greek gods in their pursuit of a new way of life, a rebuilt society in which old borders and beliefs no longer exist. A society they called Olympia.

Nearly five hundred years later, Anthony Kensom lives in the nation of Athens with his aunt and his domineering grandmother. The early loss of his parents and his struggles since have made him an outcast, and angry at the gods who have let him suffer. An incident at school leads him into the Athenian Army, where outcasts thrive, and Anthony finds his true calling as a commander and strategist. Thrust through the ranks by skill and by fortune; he leads the soldiers of Athens into the glorified bloodsport they now call war.

But his new glory is short lived. Anti-Olympia rebels known as Faithless seek to undermine him for their own purposes, using his past in an attempt to turn him against the gods. Olympia is a cage, they protest, and the more Anthony fights against their message, the more he begins to see the chains that keep him shackled.

Olympia is my idea of a dream come true. For those of you that do not know, I am obsessed with the classics and mythology so whenever I discover a mythology based book that surrounds the Greek Gods I have to read it. When I discovered Olympia and read the description I was shocked; I was shocked because this is a story I have wanted to read ever since I was a child! I have always thought of the question “what if the Greek Gods were real?”, “What would they do if they returned to earth?”, “How would people react?”… Olympia is a novel that answers all of my questions and questions I have not yet thought of so it is safe for me to write that I was delighted indeed to have discovered Olympia! If you are a reader who loves mythology, loves thrilling, entertaining stories that captivate you for hours on end and love exceptional literature then Olympia is for you! However, if you need more convincing book lovers then read the rest of my review to learn more!

Olympia is a novel that is multi-layered and in-depth, it is set five hundred years in the future however, there is a rich back history explored in the book, and I will inform you readers of this as it is sensational! In the late 21st century war has ravaged the world, cities have been decimated, and hope is lost, well, that is until salvation appears but not in the form you would expect. The Gods of Olympus, thought to be myth and legend have appeared and they have come back ‘to save humanity from itself.’ The Greek Gods help humans to rebuild fallen cities and create a society called ‘Olympia,’ and this is the premise of the novel but there is much more to the story!

The reader, ‘nearly five hundred years later’ will follow the protagonist of the novel, Anthony Kenson, a young man who lives in Athens with his grandmother and aunt. Anthony at a young age lost his parents, and this has instilled anger within him, especially with the Gods as he believed that they left them to suffer. Anthony, however, uses his anger strategically because soon he joins the Athenian Army and let’s just say he is pretty good at his job and an excellent commander! However, his toughest battle will soon come because anti-Olympia rebels are on the way and they want to destroy all that has been established as well as ‘corrupt’ Anthony, and this book lovers is the general premise of the sensational book that is Olympia.

At the beginning of my review I wrote that ‘Olympia is my idea of a dream come true’ and it truly is. I feel like the author, Kris Kramer has written this book specifically for me which is crazy right?! Of course, he has not, he has written it for the enjoyment of many readers across the world, but Kramer’s book spoke to me, he entertained me with his fascinating story, exceeded my expectations and delivered on everything that I had wished for. From beginning to end the story Kramer has created was well developed, well thought out and incredibly entertaining, he managed to continuously keep me entertained with his fast-paced plot, phenomenal descriptions which mesmerized me and take my breath away with his exceptional writing that is laced with twists and turns galore.

Overall Olympia is a dramatic, entertaining and exciting novel that readers, no matter your typical genre, should not miss because the plot from start to finish is entertaining and stellar. Of course, Olympia gets five stars from me! If you are a reader who is looking for a mythology inspired tale, then look no further because you will not find one better than this one!
