Nighthawk: African Ice, C. Edgar North

Action & Adventure, Detective & Private Investigator, Espionage & Conspiracy, Murder & Crime

Nighthawk: African Ice is a sequel to Nighthawk Crossing. Wanted by the FBI for murder and smuggling, Joseph Branson, Chief of the Midlake Indian Tribe and a former Navy SEAL, flees with his wife Hazel to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean where he is a business partner with Igor Romanoff, one of the world’s biggest arms merchants. All this is carefully watched by the CIA. Joseph and Igor begin trading weapons for raw diamonds sourced from conflict zones in Africa (Blood Diamonds – African Ice). Joseph sets up a system to cut and polish raw diamonds and profit from the added value. In the process, they wind up dealing with African Jihadists establishing the Central African Caliphate threatening to engage much of Northern and Central Africa in genocide. Selling the cut high grade diamonds takes Joseph to Colombian cocaine processors who trade immobile US Dollars for more mobile diamonds. In the meantime, Hazel returns to the Midlake Indian Tribe and runs for Chief to replace Joseph. She is opposed. Her life is threatened and she kills.

Nighthawk: African Ice is book two in the Nighthawk series written by the incredible author C. Edgar North and is the sequel to the first book, Nighthawk Crossing. I admit book lovers I have not read the first book in the series because it does not necessarily need to be read as Nighthawk: African Ice perfectly updates the reader and takes them on a thrilling journey in which they are never lost or confused. The novel, however, could be better understood by reading the first book so you can either read the first book or the second first! However, I warn you book lovers that if you read Nighthawk: African Ice first you will be desperate for more and will want to read the first book right away!

When I read the description of Nighthawk: African Ice I was hooked, after all, I love crime novels and love even more when they have a twist, so I was hooked and ready to go. However, when I started to read Nighthawk: African Ice, I was shocked by just how good the literature and the story was and so I raced through this novel desperate to find out what would happen to the characters I had grown to love and hate. Every now and then a reader will come across that one book that blows them away, it is a somewhat generic term, but that is what Nighthawk: African Ice did to me… it blew me away and ever since completing it I have been thinking of its intricate and detailed story and how I need to re-read it! That is when you know book lovers that you have come across an incredible book when you are thinking of it when you have a million things to do. That is why I am already going to recommend Nighthawk: African Ice to you lovely readers, and yes, it may be early on in my review, but Nighthawk: African Ice is a novel not to be missed.

Nighthawk: African Ice is book two in the series so I am going to try and write my description in a way that does not have too many spoilers! Nighthawk: African Ice introduces the reader to Joseph Branson, a former Navy SEAL and ‘Chief of the Midlake Indian Tribe.’ Joseph has found himself in some trouble, and so with his wife Hazel he flees to the Maldives accompanied with his ‘business’ partner Igor Romanoff who also happens to be one of the worlds largest arms dealers. The FBI and the CIA are watching Joseph and Igor and so when Joseph and Igor begin trading weapons as well as raw diamonds they start to establish a pretty good case. Matters are only complicated for the duo when they start dealing arms to ‘African Jihadists’ which in turn could lead to genocide and destruction. Nighthawk: African Ice explores all of this and more, and its story will thrill and captivate readers for hours on end.

The story of Nighthawk: African Ice is exceptional, and the book is well developed and entertaining. As I read the book, I was pleasantly surprised by North’s ability to keep invigorating new life into his book and to keep the story continually entertaining and gripping.

Nighthawk: African Ice for me was thrilling, captivating and addictive right from the start and I felt this from beginning to end. Nighthawk: African Ice was captivating to me from the start thanks to the unique premise of the story and the bewitching literature courtesy of the author who hooked me with his unique story that was unlike anything I have read before. It is rare to find a crime/adventure novel that is refreshing, and it is even more challenging to discover a crime story that does not rely on gimmicks and ridiculous action sequences! Nighthawk: African Ice does have some action-packed moments however they are tasteful and in no way gimmicky which is always fantastic in a book!

C. Edgar North is a phenomenal writer who knows how to grasp his reader’s attention from the first page. North instead of writing long, drawn-out build-ups which are commonly found in crime/suspense novels decides to ditch this approach and thrust his reader into the heart of the story straight away so that the reader is instantly captivated and immersed. I love this approach, what is the point of having a long build-up with little excitement? This is only necessary if the author in question can’t develop the characters in the story quickly but with North, the reader will not encounter this issue because North instantly develops his characters and makes the reader invest in not only them but also their journey.

North has ensured that no stone is left unturned with his book. North has managed to craft and develop a highly entertaining story that weaves suspense with intrigue with action and the result of these themes, which are all expertly spun together by North, is a thrilling story that is worthy of every book lovers read! The situation and events North have managed to create are phenomenal, and every immaculate detail is well thought out.

Overall Nighthawk: African Ice is a magnificent, brilliant and entertaining novel that will keep readers guessing from beginning to end so I, of course, have to award this exciting book five stars! So please, if you are a reader who loves crime and adventure and wants to be taken on a thrilling journey, then Nighthawk: African Ice is for you!
